WINDSOR, Ont. — Former Windsor high school principal Rev. William Hodgson (Hod) Marshall has been charged with two counts of indecent assault in Toronto.

The charges stem from an alleged incident in 1953, when the Basilian priest was teaching and coaching basketball at St. Michael’s College school.

Police said the former student alleges Marshall asked the boy, then 15, to go into a private room, where he was sexually assaulted.

Marshall, now 88, is facing six additional charges of indecent or sexual assault for incidents alleged to have occurred in Windsor during the 1950s and ’80s.

The priest taught at Assumption College school from 1954-56 and Holy Names high school from 1985-89.

Toronto police Const. Tony Vella said there may be more victims in Toronto.

“We believe there will be more charges,” he said.

“We’re urging anyone that may have been victimized by the man to come forward.”

  1. Ron Cormier says:

Hod Marshall sexually abused me at St Charles College in Sudbury for most of my grade 9 year. Ir started with checking my groin muscles and lasted the entire year. Apparently I needed math help. Every day or at least those days that i couldn’t hide from him I endured him. When I failed grade 9 he changed my marks and to;d my parents that he was doing them a favour because I was bright and couldn’t understand how this happened. I am now 55 years old and have lived with this horror most of my life. It has such a profound effect on my life and I can hardly breathe while I am writing this. This is the same feeling as when I read about Ted Holland when he took him to small claims court!

Ron: And you just made it perfectly clear why he needs to be charged, not matter how long ago this abuse happened and no matter what age he is now.

  3. Sylvia says:

Ron, you have taken a huge step. I see that you blogged on another page as well. Good for you. You are finding your voice and your strength.

Have you gone to police? If not, are you thinking of going? I know Marshall has just been convicted, but that does not for a moment prevent you from going to police to have your allegations investigated.

I know this is not easy for you, but you summoned the courage to take this step. You can take the next. You can do it Ron. I think I can safely say that every victim who stood in that court room in Windsor on Wednesday has been where you are now and knows exactly what you are going through. They made it through. So can you Ron. So can you.

My thoughts and prayers, and I know those of so many others, are with you.
