Police accuse man of driving a Volkswagen while impaired

CITY OF GUELPH – On May 21, 2016 at approximately 11:52 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit (TMU) conducted a R.I.D.E. spot check on Highway 6 and College Avenue, in the City of Guelph.

While speaking with a man driving a 2008 Volkswagen, signs of being impaired by alcohol were observed.  He was arrested and taken to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.

58-year-old Joseph Leclair of Guelph has been charged with Impaired Driving and Over 80 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

He is also charged with Having an Open Container of Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.

He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on June 14, 2016.
