Charges stayed by Crown

This is shocker.  As I mentioned earlier I was in the process this morning of getting the next court date  for Nathan Labatt  on his Humboldt, Saskatchewan charges.

Well,  ….the charges were stayed by the Crown, David Zeggelaar, on 07 April 2017.  I have no idea why.  That’s unfortunately all I know at this time.

Charges in a  Crown stay can usually be brought back to trial within a year.  I will try to find out what the status is, and why the stay was requested.

So, as it stands, there is a stay on the Humboldt charges, and Labatt  was  ACQUITTED on the Kamsack charges because, according to media reports “Judge Patrick Koskie ruled that the Crown had not definitively proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the victim was under the age of 16. Although Koskie said he had a reasonable suspicion that was the case, the statement of the accused to that effect fell short of the criminal standard for the establishment of age.”  That leaves the Regina charges.

The preliminary hearing on the Regina charges started 27-29 March and continues 22 June 2017.

Please keep the complainants in your prayers.

I am trying to find out more regarding the stayed charges at the trial of Father Javier De Los Angeles Cortazar .

Enough for now,

Sylvia
