Father Eric Dejaeger’s next Edmonton court date is  29 March 2012 at 9 am “for election and plea.”  That is when we will learn if Dejaeger wants to opt for trial by judge or trial by jury on the Edmonton charges.

I have no response as yet to my email to Msgr. Puddister regarded the status of Father Slaney. Msgr. Puddister is the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of St. John’s Newfoundland.  Today I phoned and left a message.  I do believe there is a need to know what Father Slaney’s status is.

Also today I sent an email to the Mayor and Councillors of the City of St. John’s regarding former teacher and convicted molester Raymond Garter (Gary) Stanford.

Stanford has been working at the  Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland, (NLSC) a facility frequented by children and youth.

In November of last year I set about trying to find out how this could be possible.  My questions were forwarded to Dr. Patrick Parfery, the Chair of the NLCS Board of Directors.

Dr. Patrick Parfrey’s response to my questions floored me.

I have had every intention of pursuing this further, but due to various circumstances was unable to do so.  Today I picked up on it again.

I truly can not fathom why anyone would willfully place children at risk by hiring a convicted molester to work in a facility frequented by children and youth!  Nor can I understand why no one is taking action to get him out of there.  And I do not for a moment understand why staff at the St. John’s Telegram who are aware if the situation have failed to alert the general public.

So, here we go again.  I hope and pray that the Mayor and coucillors will opt to act in favour and defence of the children.  Common sense says Gary Stanford should not be working at the NLCS.

So who’s doing background checks now?
Can the RCMP or Newfoundland Constabulary be notified and shouldn’t they have a record? Volunteers have to have a background check but not employees?

  3. Clyde says:

To deeplybetrayed- usually a person either volunteering or working around children would require a ‘vulnerable sector check’ carried out to make sure they do not have a criminal record AND to ensure the person has not applied for a pardon for a conviction for a sexual offence. I think all these changes arose after Graham James received his pardon for sexual offence convictions while coaching. This would be the same case with Stanford who was convicted of sexual & physical abuse upon one of his students while he was the Teacher & coach. So yeah, why hasn’t his employer requested this criminal record check????

It looks as though St John’s city council is turning a blind eye and ear.

I am beyond disbelief that this can be happening in St. John’s Newfoundland. Has no one learned anything?
