Hearings resume at 0930 hours (9:30 am) this morning, Wednesday, 17 December 2008. Deputy Commissioner Chris Lewis will return for cross-examination. Former Cornwall Crown attorney Don Johnson will take the stand. Since becoming a defence lawyer Johnson has defended a number of the real and “alleged” paedophiles of Cornwall.
Of interest is the following list of Crown brief indices entered into evidence during Pat Hall’s testimony yesterday. I have added what I know of the outcome of the briefs.
There are a few things of interest here. First and foremost, I see Richard Racine’s name on the list. Richard Racine I do believe must be Father Richard Racine. I have listed him as such.
Racine was a Cornwall boy who became a teacher and a priest (ordained 1986) in the neighbouring Archdiocese of Kingston. He served both as a chaplain in Catholic schools and as a parish priest.
Racine was charged in 1993 and in 1994 convicted for sex offences against young boys (sexual assault, gross indecency and attempted buggery)
After he was charged Racine spent time in Southdown. He was convicted at trial and sentenced to 15 months. He was out in five months.
Racine underwent chemical and surgical castration. I am unsure if he is or is not still a priest.
However, three questions regarding Richard Racine:
(1) What became of the Project Truth allegations against Racine?
(2) Is Tom Racine, the Cornwall Police Service officer referenced in testimony, related to Richard?
Other questions regarding other names on the list:
(1) Who is Jacques Martell? What was he investigated for? Sex abuse? Or conspiracy?
(2) Who is John Wilson? What was he investigated for? Sex abuse? Or conspiracy?
