Cornwall Public Inquiry

The World is Watching

Letter from Wales to Justice Normand Glaude

(copy received at theinquiry.ca 4 October 2007)

Dear Mr Justice Glaude,

I write to you not as a Canadian, but as a Welsh woman living in Wales. UK.  I have been following this case( A Paedophile ring uncovered in Cornwall and the abdominal way Mr and Mrs Perry Dunlop and their family have been treated) for 6 years, with an ever increasing interest into how it would conclude. My interest stems from the same paedophile problem here in the UK, many of the cases concluding with the perpetrators being jailed. This includes priests and those holding positions within society.

I do not have a deep understanding of the law,  I am a nurse practitioner and therefore I do have a deep understanding of people, their needs, their fears and how when life turns upside down for them it effects their whole being, physically, spiritually and psychologically. I therefore have some understanding of how Mr and Mrs Dunlop and family  have been affected by the abuse they have received over the last 14 years.

For the past few weeks I have been fortunate enough to be able to view the inquiry on my computer. I watched Helen Dunlop take the stand and listened to her heart wrenching account of her families last 14 years and her husband Perry Dunlop, refusing to answer any more questions, as you have the answers already. If I remember a huge file, his ‘will state’ which took Mr and Mrs Dunlop 4 months to compile.

As I understand, the conclusion of this inquiry is making recommendations to the institutions of Ontario when dealing with child abuse? The person (Perry Dunlop) who enabled the community of Cornwall and shall I say, all Canadians, to wakeup to the fact that a paedophile ring was working within its small town community, and that those who should be doing something about it weren’t, has been psychologically abused by the very people who are in place, within society, to protect him. Carson Chisholm had to be questioned by a lawyer Helen Daley, who must live in a strange world of make believe, almost mocking the allegations that a paedophile ring and a conspiracy could have been at work in Cornwall. Where has she been all her life, does she think that because one is a priest,  bishop, a judge , a lawyer, social worker or some trusted pillar of society that they are above the law and incapable of such heinous crimes.?  I must say, it must appear that way to many Canadians, the message you are sending out is, don’t mess with anything that’s not your business, certainly don’t’ whistle blow’, as the law is more powerful than you, we will protect those we want to, even if they have  broken the law with such heinous crimes.!

Frome my position Justice Glaude you are not showing the world.( and the world is watching you)  a strong thinking, just, moral man. You are honoured to be placed in such a position of trust and lawful power, Surely your stance should be to show Canadians that what has happened in the small town of   Cornwall is never going to happen again and that if anyone of it’s citizens sees or hears anything to the contrary, they should feel  empowered  and safe to report it to the authorities and it will be dealt with lawfully for all to see.. Unfortunately at this present time you are not giving that message to those who need to hear it.  I will keep praying that you will do the right thing, after all Justice Glaude we all have to stand and account for our actions one day before someone who has seen all.
