Cornwall Public Inquiry

Perry Dunlop

Support for Perry Dunlop

and/or Commentary on the Cornwall Public Inquiry

On 19 November 2007 at Justice Normand Glaude's behest the Ontario Divisional Court found Perry guilty of contempt of court for failing to testify at the Cornwall Public Inquiry.  This is the institutional response to Perry for blowing the whistle on the "alleged"paedophiles of Cornwall.

On 05 March 2008 the Ontario Divisional Court found Perry guilty of a second charge of criminal contempt which had morphed from the first.  He was sentenced to six months in jail on the first civil contempt.  The judges withheld sentencing on the criminal contempt conviction until he serves or "purges" the first sentence. The sentence for criminal contempt will probably be 15 months!

This at an inquiry which promised and gave repeated assurance that no one would be forced to testify against his/her will, ....and at an inquiry which refuses to likewise force the real and "alleged" paedophiles of Cornwall to take the stand! Over the past eighteen months I have received many emails making comment about the inquiry and/or expressing support for Perry Dunlop and his family. I decided I needed a mechanism to share those emails, hence the creation of this page.

I have since published the Dunlop's mailing address in Ducan BC.  The Dunlops have been flooded with  letters and cards of support.  A separate page has been created for that purpose.  I have also since created the Sound Off! page.

Letter from David and Shelley Price read publicly at 01 May 2008 Public Meeting in Cornwall, Ontario

Hello Everyone

We are David and Shelley Price.

Thank you for coming tonight.

We were both raised in Cornwall.

Shelley was exposed to the Cornwall Clan in the early 60's when Cornwall Police and Firemen were operating a child sexual  abuse ring in Glenview Heights.

I was first exposed to Clan abuse at 14 by two OPP personnel on a boat in the St. Lawrence.

At some point the both of us have seen the who's who of the  Cornwall Clan in action.

I talked to John Cleary about it in 1977.

At that time he had already heard the allegations from other sources.

In 1977 Perry Dunlop was a teenager in school.

In 1977 the Cornwall Clan had already been operating for over 10  years. The Cornwall Clan was operating before Perry was born.

Many children and young people had already been abused before  Perry even thought of becoming a Policeman.

We know these things because we were there.

Eye witnesses.

Even up untill three years ago the Clan was still threatening us through the Police Department.

Long after Perry was gone

The organization and antics of the Cornwall Clan are evil.

The actions of this inquiry are evil.

It is the thoughts, actions and deeds of the good and honest  people that will control this tidal wave of corruption.

Our energy and prayers must be dedicated and directed to bring Perry home.

Perry is a hero.

Perry is OUR hero.

Perry is My hero.

God Bless.

Dear Mr. Perry,

I am Irene McNeilly, from the St. Paul area of  Alberta.  I have been following the notorious Cornwall situation over the previous 5 years through Sylvia MacEachern, of Ottawa; and am persistently imploring Our Sovereign Lord that the truth will become manifest, despite the multi-layered high level cover-up that seeks to pervert justice.  In my naivete, I never thought it would come to this, that an Officer of the Peace who is sworn to protect the rights of those in his jurisdiction is punished by the Law for seeking to protect  children exploited by men in positions of prominence!

Dear Perry:  we have never met, but I speak to your Helen and Heather every now and then by ‘phone, and implore the Lord daily, persistently for you in your totally unjust situation..  My dear brother in Christ, I am with you and your family in prayers. Do not lose heart, no matter what.  This is not your defeat; remember little David against the giant Goliath; God too will bring the victory into your situation.

I am praying for you every day, every hour you and your family are on my mind, as I lift you all in prayer to the Lord. Even at night when I wake up I think of you, interceding for you by means of the holy rosary, and asking Mother Mary to hold you in her arms. Every minute I am asking the Heavenly Father to send the Holy Angels around you to protect you.

Helen told me that they stripped you of everything. You cannot even take a shower or wear your watch. But remember, Perry dear, what they did to our Lord Jesus, how his own people rejected and abused Him. It is  not you Perry, but Jesus within you Who is suffering for those grown men, who were so satanically abused as young boys, who have no voice but you; so in a way that you have perhaps never before meditated upon, you are Jesus in disguise!

This is the season of Lent.  Offer up all your sufferings to Jesus, in union with His sufferings, for the alleviation of the sufferings of the abused, but especially to show the Lord your faith and trust that He will move on your behalf and on behalf of the abused, living and deceased.  We are praying for you, Perry. I asked a holy priest in India to offer 30 masses for you. Please do not lose heart. Pray as many rosaries as possible, and Our Lady will give you the strength and comfort that you really need.

Dear Perry: there are many people here are praying for you. You may not think of yourself as a hero, but in the minds of many internet readers of your situation, you are another Christ.  Sylvia’s website keeps us appraised of the latest movements in your situation..

Perry dear; we love you. We are with you in prayers and in spirit. Jesus, Mary and the Holy Angels, are with you.

With Love and Prayers:

                                         Irene McNeilly

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Dunlop and family,

As a child who underwent molestation  I thank you ,for standing at a great cost to yourself and family, for all victims of this crime. It is hard to believe this is happening. I had to endure having Ken Seguin in my home around my children all the while people knew he was a child molester. I feel sick and vulnerable as he killed himself but untold others will walk free while you get punished. It is not safe in these counties!!!  I don't know what I can do to help but will do anything I can to help and support you and your family always. God bless! please let me know what I can do! Take care.

You know this reminds me so much of the cover-up of Mount Cashel in St. John's, NL. It's hard to believe that these kinds of injustices are still occurring. We had a public inquiry there, too, in 1989. It was through listening to this inquiry which was televised, that I had flashbacks to what happened to me as a child. I later went to the police and made my complaint. In 1991 following a preliminary hearing my offender pled guilty. I could tell you a whole lot about my experience but suffice it to say that in my book Perry Dunlop should be given an Order of Canada not be behind bars!

If there's one thing that we as survivors of child sexual abuse need it's advocates like Perry Dunlop.  How in the world has our justice system come to using such techniques as putting Perry Dunlop in jail? I think it's disgusting.

My heart goes out to Mr. Dunlop and his family. We can only hope and pray that a common sense light bulb comes on soon in our judiciary and frees this man. There has to be a better way.

Yours truly,

Carol Crocker

[the inquiry.ca note: By way of background to the following comment….

On Monday 18 February 2008 Perry was taken from his holding cell at the RCMP detachment to a hearing at the courthouse in Duncan BC.  There an apparently frustrated judge asked the local Crown and/or RCMP officers for an original copy of the warrant for Perry’s arrest.  It seems that the previous day duty counsel had asked to see the original warrant, was shown a photocopy, questioned if it had been properly validated and, I believe, hence the matter was brought before the court.

My understanding is that the hearing was remanded to Tuesday at 9 am. Both Perry and Helen understood that.  The matter remained unresolved.

Perry was not taken back to the courthouse on Tuesday morning.  Instead he was whisked off in a van in the company of two Toronto police officers, taken to the airport in Victoria and transported by air – handcuffed and shackled every moment of the way – across the country to a detention centre in Toronto.  The next day he appeared in custody at Ontario Divisional Court. The courthouse referenced below is the courthouse in Duncan BC

 21 February 2008

When Craig and I arrived at the courthouse Tuesday morning [19 February 2008] we found Helen in tears, friends and media standing there thunderstruck as to what just went down. I felt the shockwave go through me...our worst fear had happened!

Since then, I have been in constant touch with Perry's wonderful Mom and know what is transpiring. We also want to reassure Heather that we will help in any way. Craig, my husband, has worked for Perry in his Renovation business for going on three years now. We met the Dunlops not long after they moved to BC and have had many good times together, then, slowly, their past came to light.

Our main concern is Perry's safety. There is no doubt in my mind he will be sentenced to jail time, how long? Who knows. After all is said and done, will it end there? I feel very negative about this and very afraid for this wonderful family.

Glaude and Engelman have an evil vendetta set aside for this man who tried to do the right thing. Are they ALL part of a cover up?? Where are all these pedophiles hiding? They are hiding under the flowing robes of judges and priests just like a pack of wolves waiting to entice another vulnerable victim into their lair - they must feed on children.

The plea for justice has fallen on the deaf ears our very own government - no one has stepped up to the plate to defend Perry, he is on his own. Only in Canada, you say?

 18 February 2008

I have been a friend of Perry's since the early 80's in Cornwall. When he married Helen, I became friends with her too.

The girls came along, and I saw a lot of love, joy and respect in that home.  You see, I was a neighbhor in Cornwall. I was there when Perry found out " Something that is going to change our lives forever!" as Perry told me. I did not know what it was, but between myself, my son, and the lady across the street, we all babysat the girls while Perry and Helen went for drives to talk so that no one knew what was going on.  You see, there is such a bond between these 2 people that one doesn't make an important decision without the other.  I was there when the phone calls started and when threats were made.

I saw the concern and the thoughts of " maybe we should just drop this".. but you know, Perry told me that he could not look at himself in the mirror ever again if he just stood by and pretend that this was not happening.

Now I live in BC. Victoria, to be exact just 40 minutes from The Dunlop family.  We have remained friends all these years, and it tears my heart out to see that this is happening them. I was not at the rally, but got there not long after Perry had been taken to jail---my support was there and they all knew it.

Let me say, that I have such a RESPECT and LOVE for both of them, but HELEN is my HERO. She and Perry have a marriage that most people only dream of--respect, love, loyalty, and they are truly ONE! Perry has a wonderful spirit, is the most honest person that I know and will always do the right thing.  That is why he was a police officer; and won all of those awards.  Why doesn't anyone mention that he won an award in the USA for what he did????? IMAGINE, the State Troopers in Texas flew him there to accept an award for Protecting the children and standing up for what was right!

What did we do in CANADA?  WE PUT HIM IN JAIL!!!!!

I know in my heart that the Truth will be revealed--heck if anyone reads the goings on in the courtroom in Cornwall, they now know that all of what Perry brought to light are true!! Look at the 2 parole officers. It is now being told that what Perry said all along is true..Quelle Surprise! TRUTH!!!!

I will be in contact with the family while this is going on, but, please, all of you Lawmakers, let Perry go free!!!

It is way too late to put some of those low life's in jail, as they are burning in Hell, but please do not make people second guess their actions if they have a problem and do not want to report it because they feel that if they do, they will also end up in JAIL!!!

God Bless you Perry, Helen, Girls, and Mrs Dunlop I am praying for all of you and I am here if and when you need me.

Well it is done.  Now this should awake those in Ontario that the inquiry is way off course with the arrest of Perry.  We were there in Duncan to support Helen, Perry and the family.  We hope that now the inquiry will get back on focus and show what the focus has been all along ........... to attack Perry and cover up this cesspool of the powers that be.  The church tried to cover it up in BC and it is trying to cover it up in Ontario.  Why aren't the perpetrators at the inquiry?? Now for those in Ontario to show their support on Wednesday!

I find it very interesting that Perry was denied the opportunity to read from and put into the commission record his report of 15 years ago. Perry's point is that his report is the most accurate account of his investigations into the despicable pedophile activities underway at that time in Cornwall Ontario, and that he could add nothing further to his report that he submitted officially and that was was rejected by his superiors. One can only ask WHY. What reasons were given for its rejection?

It is also interesting that another enquiry, this one the Parliamentary Ethics Committee on the Schrieber/Mulroony affair also had the same kind of situation. Norman Spector, Mulroney's ex-Chief of Staff, was a witness at one of the Committee's sessions. He was asked about a report he wrote 13 years ago on his time with Mulroney. One of the Committee members asked about that report, and requested that Mr. Spector should elaborate on it. Mr. Spector said that the report was written 13 years ago, was on public record, and that he didn't want to waste the Committee's time, because the report was the best record of what happened at that time, so long ago. This answer was quite acceptable to the Committee.

ARE THERE TWO STANDARDS HERE?

ACTIVIST ALERT: PENDING ARREST OF PERRY DUNLOP

[03 February 2008 email alert to a number of groups, primarily men’s groups]

Theme of our next publicity campaign starting next week will be to free Perry Dunlop when they (Ontario system of injustice) delivers him in handcuffs to [Toronto] Ontario sometime next week to be grilled and destroyed by lawyers protecting homosexual pedophiles at the Cornwall Inquiry.

You might start reading on a public fiasco of Cornwall Inquiry and consider writing about a real hero of fathers movement; brave dedicated and decorated ex-police officer, father of three teenage daughters and protector of sexually abused boys thrown in jail for publicly expressing his doubts about integrity of justice system in Ontario.

http://www.theinquiry.ca/

You have your work cut out for you.

Cheers,

Is the Dunlop family going to be further punished for bringing possible corruption in our legal system to the attention of the public?  I think it's disgraceful for the courts to order a "free person" who has committed no crime to give evidence against his will when that person tried so long to cause the courts to act upon the truth and was ignored.  I would like to know if Mr. Dunlop's lawyer can show that he is exercising his rights without intention of bringing the administration of justice into disrepute. I might be wrong but I sincerely believe my website at www.permitted-purgery.com shows the court is capabale of doing that on its own.

I admire Mr. Dunlop's courage and concern for justice, even though I question whether he should be ordered to give evidence in this case.  In my opinion he is not the only one that questions the integrity of the courts and should not be under a court order or be punished.  If the courts treat this brave man unfairly it will probably result in more disrespect and will do very little good for society.  We need an honourable court system and we should all be concerned about this matter.  I wish the courts would leave Mr. Dunlop alone and show respect for his lengthy effort to deal with this crime as any good police officer wwould have done.

It seems to me that Mr. Dunlop is soon to be another victim of the courts, just as I was when a lawyer fabricated a ridiculous story to have me falsely convicted and all the courts favoured their "fellow officer of the court". They effectively aided and abetted in his crime and this injustice remains to this day even though the proof of perjury is still available and has been presented to the courts.  But sadly, only to be ignored.

I’m very disappointed to hear the pathetic attempt at justice at this ‘inquiry’. I  hope people can see through all the lies and cover-ups. I have zero faith and respect for our justice system. To Mr. Perry, I hope that he and his family have the strength to see this mess through and ‘get’ the people that really should be held accountable. Shame on our system of justice.

To whom this concerns,

I watched the TV news coverage about Officer Dunlop Vs. Pedophiles.

I checked out this website: http://www.theinquiry.ca/Perry_Dunlop.php

Please send me the Petition (or direct me to the site) where I can support Perry Dunlop.

My daughter & her friend were molested repeatedly by a pedophile (babysitter)

He did HORRIBLE things to them....and my daughter attempted suicide.

She also got heavily involved in drugs & alcohol, due to the emotional damage.

She spent YEARS in counselling, attempting to get her life back.

The devastating effects of being violently molested were intensely scarring.

It also affected my life in a very negative way...I haemorrhaged & nearly died.

The pedophile only got 18 months for BOTH offences !

His name is Michael Pater...and he came from Port Alberni, B.C.

I found out his grandfather is also a pedophile and molests children.

I did some research & found DOZENS of his victims...he's an evil man.

I encouraged the victims to take action but they were terrified...he threatened to kill them.

He is Free now...lives in Edmonton....being a predator again...seeking more victims.

Canada's Law is too easy on pedophiles...the penalty should fit the crime.

I read articles on this site about the teacher, probation officer & clergy.

They molested children and destroyed their lives...scarred them forever.

Officer Dunlop exposed them & he is persecuted....that's Unacceptable !

The pedophiles go Free...no jail time...no charges laid...that's UNACCEPTABLE !

What is wrong with our Justice system?

Pedophiles run Free while our babies are Prisoners to their nightmares.

I thought children were regarded AS PRECIOUS in this society !

We spend years raising & protecting our Lambs, so Wolves can ravage them?

I support Perry Dunlop....we need more courageous people like him !!!

Please send me the Petition...or direct me to a site that carries it.

Thank you so much,

I wish there was more than just encouragement I could give to this former officer and his family.  I do know what is like to suffer from the injustice of our legal system in Canada. I also know and believe, "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."
I hope for all the good and best for this family.

As a court experience psychiatrist, long retired, I would gladly testify on your behalf if you are put on trial.
Even Judges like Michel Robert of the Quebec Supreme Court find themselves in trouble if they criticize the justice system.

I testified before the Morand Royal Commission (1976) about police misconduct but the Commission itself had been corrupted by the people it was supposed to be investigating

HOWWWW CAN THIS HAPPEN????

I have just read about the Cornwall Inquiry in January 16, 2008 Duncans Citizen newspaper. I would first off like to commend you on stepping forward to fight for what is right, fighting for victims who seem to have no voice whatsoever, perpetrators protected? Cover up, Oh what a can of worms, and what a scam! Somebody needed to take a stand against these people who are committing these heinous crimes against children and damaging them for life! How can the priests stand in pulpits telling members, don’t do this, don’t do that, meanwhile molesting children in the back forties??

My ex husband, who lived in Ontario, 60 this July, was molested by a priest when he was 12 yrs old in 1960, an altar boy, in the Catholic church, he has not spoken a word about this to anybody!

Although I am not Catholic however do not believe for one minute that this happened only in Catholic Churches, I know, I was one victim of many, I told at the time and no one believed me. I was a vulnerable child, chastised and blackballed from the church by people who were supposed to protect me? The allegation swept under the rug, the perpetrator moving on to another province to continue molesting children in a school!!!

I recently met someone thru classmates.com who attended the same church as I, was raped more then once by 2 people, he older then I, 17 yrs old at the time, I was floored to learn his story so similar to mine. He though has told no one and will not allow any dr near his back end to this day. Fortunately I had closure on the matter when I helped send this 64 yr old pedophile to prison.

Anyways I wanted to let you know that you are indeed in for a long battle, and I want to say Kudos, and that I support you 100% in your plight! This is very close to my own heart.

Sincerely
[name withheld, Vancouver Island]

15 January 2008 email to the Dunlops, posted at request and with permission of author
Dear Perry and Helen and family:

I'm so glad to have met up with you all and perhaps help all of us bring some justice to those who have abused children, it's too bad that the government seems to be in such a big hurry to either cover it up or point fingers at each other and get nothing done. I'm so sorry that those who were suppossed to be in power to help us are the very same people who not only want us to go away but the truth as well. They are all so busy pointing fingers at each other to further complicate matters in hopes that it will go away that the only result is that more kids get abused and thank God in Ontario for the Coroner's Office or it might further get covered up. You see, the abuse all over the province of Ontario can all be swept under the rug and the Children's Aid Society's hide behind their Privacy wall and the police hide behind the PSA and then try to intimidate people who come forward. But what helps us all in a rather macabre sort of way is that the Coroner's Office by law has to investigate and hold an inquiry when a child in the care (?) of the various CAS's and CCAS's is killed or I'm afraid the government and others would have even more success in preventing any of this to become public.

Please feel free to use any of the things that I send to you e-mails included as well as paperwork from the HPS which proves how they lie and tried to cover it up as well as my files from the HWCAS in any way that you see fit. You have my full and absolute permission to use ANYTHING I send to you and when and if Perry has to come to Ontario for whatever legal reason, tell him that he can have access to EVERYTHING I have which includes paperwork from the OCCPS, the IPC and the Ombudsman's Office and an MPP from Hamilton. Also, tell Perry that he won't be standing alone and that I will physically be there with him at his leisure and that includes going to court or talking to his lawyer or anything at all.
It has been a pleasure getting to meet you and it will be even a greater pleasure getting to know you all.

Sincerely yours,

David Witzel [Toronto,Ontario]

PS I'll try and find the 2 page e-mail from the CAS which states that the abuse to my brother and I happened and that it is in their files of me. D

Dear Helen and Perry,

I am one of a group of people from Lanark County who nominated you for a
Governor Generals Award several years ago. It was so disappointing to learn
that our application was turned down. But it is even more disappointing to
see how you have been mistreated during the inquiry.

I support your stance and I do hope that it results in positive changes to
our system of 'justice'.

I also hope that you are somehow able to have a lovely and loving Christmas
and with any luck a peaceful new year.

The true contempt of justice is the entire web of deciet and protection that has been the corner stone of this indecent ring of powerful people that has spilled over into this commisson. The fact that the inquiry is not impartial nor is it fullfilling its mandate is evident in the way it attacks the victims and has not attacked the pedophiles nor the social and legal and relgious system that allowed these abuses to continue and be covered up. The final straw to break the camels back is the absurd position of the legal system to charge Perry Dunlop with contempt of court for refusing to testify another time.

This seems like something from a hollywood movie. Its as good as any conspiracy theory on the web. But its all true. The coverup continues and the abuse of power and the need to punish the messanger one way or another is still being pursued. The Canadian people and the apathetic people of Cornwall need to make a public display in defence of Perry Dunlop and the victims. We need the entire city to march in support of Perry Dunlop. This continued contempt of the legal system to attack the victims and the messanger is clear as day. If we lie down and do nothing, then the evil that surronds us will envelop us and consume us. Our only honourable course of action is to make a municiple stand in defense of Perry Dunolp. We the people must not lie down and allow this to continue any longer.

Sylvia has done so much work. Anyone who takes the time to read her efforts will see that the contempt of law and truth is not the messanger Perry Dunlop. If we allow the man who released the truth to be penelized then we are all guilty of the acts of these evil and powerful people who would take your son and rape him and your neighbours. If a policeman can still go to jail for protecting the innocent children then I fear for our democracy. If we fail to come to his aid and allow this miscarriage of justice to continue then I fear for us all.

Apathy alive and well in Cornwall

Cornwall Standard Freeholder
Letter to the Editor
29 November 2007
I heard a comment from a local media source that there were few or no e-mails regarding current issues and commentaries, probably due to apathy. They were right. The "Project Truth inquiry" has heard testimony regarding and implicating a former premier protecting a former bishop, with the OPP and an MPP (Gary Guzzo) trying to put it all together (they haven't been able to until the MPP's recent testimony). No wonder the backbenchers here in Cornwall have felt they have been stonewalled, shunned and put off for years. Apathy? Damn right. All of us in Cornwall have become apathetic. Makes us wonder what other "truths" that trusted officials have been hiding while victims are simply considered collateral damage. We, unfortunately, need this inquiry. Mike Harris should be made to testify. No wonder (Perry) Dunlop felt he was up against a wall. Fraternities go higher up. Apathy will win out, thanks to the lack of appropriate justice we have been subjected to in this town over the past decades. I feel sorry for the victims, as most of us have. Others preferred to live in denial and still go to church while their fraternities hold all the power. And yes, the province should pay for this inquiry.

Comment on Cornwall Standard Freeholder website re article Doug Seguin contacted brother's accusers

Maybe Doug didn't know his brother all that well seeing as how he and Fr. Charles "Chuck" MacDonald were always hanging around together. MacDonald formed a 'Youth Group' at the Apple Hill rectory with Seguins help. I personally seen Seguin attend the Apple Hill rectory many times to have "conferences" with MacDonald.

Toronto (Cathy Lanktree,Ontario), 23 November 2007

There was an article today about Perry Dunlop titled "Perry ...Finish what you started" I can't believe a local person would write such an article especially with a headline like that. You obviously don't know Perry or what him and his family have been through. Its been 14 years of hell and he has been dragged back to Cornwall from B.C. countless times to face gruelling testimony and questions from high priced lawyers representing institutions that failed the victims time and time again and tried to pin some kind of blame on Perry. How can you say "Finish what you started" If he hadn't spoken out on behalf of the victims, the abuse would still be occurring. Its definitely time to leave him and his family alone.

He's said all there is to say!

Having serendipitously come upon your site this past month – I find myself once again re-living and experiencing a “roller-coaster” of emotions as I read through your journal. Please be assured that I understand and appreciate your current thoughts and feelings as you report the daily pharisaical theatrics.

Over the past ten years, I have been Blessed in being led on a journey – from out of the darkness of my youth into the light of healing and transformation - both as an individual and in a supportive group on this “The Road Less Traveled”.

As this is a very long story and having been taught to “Keep it Simple” let me give you a Readers Digest version of what has come to mind these past few days – in the hope that it will provide you, Mr. and Mrs. Dunlop; et al – with some encouragement as you continue to “fight the good fight”…

I have come to believe - in spite of “ourselves” – our collective “brokenness”

Romans 8:26 (The Message)

Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.

And in the words of Jean Vanier – from his book:

Becoming Human

“The path to becoming human is the path to freedom, the subject of the fourth chapter. To be free "is to put justice, truth, and service to others over and above our own personal gain or our need for recognition, power, honour, and success" (108). In pursuing our own needs, we become slaves to them, and are not free.

Forgiveness is perhaps the most difficult, and that is why Vanier speaks of it last. We can easily become imprisoned in our hatred for those who have wronged, harmed or injured us. But that hatred can also eat us up (150).

To forgive means that change can occur, that human redemption is possible (153).

For forgiveness to be complete, however, means perpetrators must also confront their own wrongful acts, and disarm themselves in front of the victims (157). The objective of forgiveness is to turn "hearts of stone, into hearts of flesh."

To become human is hard work, and the skeptical might be inclined to consider it idealistic "the world will never be this way."

Vanier acknowledges this, but responds by saying that "we do not have to be saviours of the world!

We are simply human beings, enfolded in weakness and in hope, called together to change our world one heart at a time" (163). “

Please accept this as a token of my gratitude to you, the Dunlop family, et al – assurance of my daily prayer for “you and yours” as each one of you….

As simply human beings, enfolded in weakness and in hope – join together to change our world – one heart at a time.

Cornwall’s next hero?

Seaway News (Cornwall)

16 November 2007

Dear Editor,

This paper tried to determine what a hero really is (a couple of years ago).

The consensus seemed to be that people who die at war for what they believe a worthy cause are true heroes, which a great hockey player, no matter how much revered, is not (for anything he could do on the ice)

    .

Perry and Helen Dunlop haven’t died for their cause, but if Perry goes to jail for his “crime,” he will qualify for hero status in my book and I will push for this acknowledgement to be realized.

Perry Dunlop is the most decorated officer in Cornwall’s history, as he is the only officer to be awarded the Officer of the Year (twice, both before 1993).

The State of Texas awarded him another award for his efforts since 1993. His wife also deserves hero status, or do I need to use “heroine?”

The Dunlops’ “crime” is such an embarrassment to the establishment, it will be extremely interesting to see how they try to get out of the corner they have painted themselves into. If the Dunlops happen to read this, of course I don’t wish them jail time, but jail

time might do more for these crusaders’ cause than anything else that could happen.

Heroes don’t have to die, nor do they have to score goals, but when they are wronged by the legal and justice system, everyone who has a heart for abused children will sit up and take notes.

Mr. Raven P. Van Leishout, Cornwall

It occurred to me today that this whole 'shoot the messenger' charade called the Cornwall Inquiry, can so much more easily take place somewhere like Cornwall, Ontario. In an industrially and governmentally  important, industrial, 'up-market' place like Toronto, or any other progressive city in Canada, such antics would have received 'cross-Canada attention' and been dealt with immediately and definitively years ago. Policemen who uncover such heinous crimes as pedophilia, deserve the nation's gratitude - not vindictive persecution.

Subject: Cornwall Outrage

Thanks for your comprehensive information on this terrible saga of victimization and criminal deceit.  What an indictment of our "justice" system, government and police department officials -- and well-earned recognition for the citizens who themselves pursued and uncovered evidence of the truth.

No one reading your information can come to any conclusion other than this.  The deliberately destroyed and lost evidence, the malicious hounding of heroic whistleblower Perry Dunlop, the criminal misuse of taxes diverted to covering up the shattering truth, and the effort to exhaust financially and emotionally the good citizens intent on justice being done needs to finally see the light of day and public scrutiny.  Your work offers hope that perhaps this time the truth will prevail.

People like Perry Dunlop, his wife, their supporters, and Garry Guzzo who by his conduct maintains public confidence in at least a very few elected officials such as himself, are balm to the discouraged soul.

A FILM
I hope that some day a film will be made of this entire story, to honour the citizens and whistleblower heroes, and to show how future repetitions of such obstructed Canadian justice may be prevented.  Also, the current high-positioned villains must not be allowed to hide in the dark shadows of oblivion and the passage of time.

Very best wishes to you.
