Cornwall Public Inquiry

James Stewart 

James Stewart was called to the Ontario Bar in 1973. 

1973 – 1976:  Assistant Crown in Sudbury, Ontario 

1976 – 1991:  Assistant Crown attorney in Ottawa, Ontario. James Stewart was at the Ottawa Crown’s office off and on from 1991 to 1999.  In early '94 for example, he spent six months in Brockville, from 1991-1992 he was acting Crown for Ottawa Carleton, from September 1994 to December 1996 he was Senior Crown counsel for the Special Prosecutions Branch in Toronto, and 1997 to 1999 he worked as a Crown prosecutor in Ottawa. 

January 1999:  Appointed Director of Crown operations for Eastern Ontario – responsible for approximately 90 Crowns.  James Stewart replaced Robert Pelletier who had been working as Acting Director since May 1998.  

James Stewart testified at the Cornwall Public Inquiry 27  January 2009
