Steve Parisien
Parisien takes the stand

News Alert!  Cornwall Standard Freeholder

Wednesday, September 05, 2007 - 08:00

Local News - Cornwall (Staff) — The man facing allegations he told a witness at the Cornwall Public Inquiry to lie under oath took the stand this morning in his obstruction of justice trial.

Steve Parisien denied outright he ever suggested Albert Roy could have memory lapses about his inquiry testimony, and that he didn't bring up former city cop Perry Dunlop or call the inquiry a "Perry Dunlop witch hunt" during their Dec. 4 phone call.

On Tuesday, Roy testified that Parisien had told him he could forget certain things if he didn't want to answer questions put to him by inquiry lawyers – an allegation that first came about during Roy's inquiry testimony last December.

Parisien said today he didn't know Roy was returning to the inquiry when he called him that December night, and that Roy didn't elaborate on the uncomfortable topic inquiry lawyers were asking him about.

"The only indication that Albert gave me in regards to the topic was it was personal and private and it did not pertain to the inquiry," Parisien told Crown prosecutor Jay Spare.

"So Albert didn't say to you, 'They want me to answer questions about Perry Dunlop?'"

"No," replied Parisien.

Parisien, one of the instrumental figures in getting the inquiry off the ground, is facing one charge of obstructing justice.
