A lawyer for a key witness at the Cornwall Public Inquiry has suggested his client will not be able to complete cross-examination.

Pradeep Chand, an attorney acting for Ron Leroux at the inquiry, has told the commission medical reports compiled by a city psychologist regarding Leroux's mental health will serve to show Leroux is not capable of completing cross-examination.

Counsel for all parties will now make submissions on the issue. A decision on the matter is expected to be made sometime today.

Leroux spent several days testifying in late June and is currently at the start of cross-examination. Of the 16 parties with standing at the inquiry, just one has managed to get in a few questions in cross-examination. Lawyers for Citizens for Community Renewal began their questioning prior to the start of the summer break in June, but it has not been completed.

Will Inquiry Witness Finish Testimony?

Cornwall News AM 1220   August 15, 2007 — Should a witness at the Cornwall Public Inquiry continue to testify? That's the issue lawyers are tackling today. Commission Counsel has received a number of letters over the past few months from a witness' psychologist. Today, the debate is whether or not Ron Leroux is able to finish his testimony. The contents of the letters have not been discussed in public court. OPP lawyer Diane Lahaie says the reports contain more than medical information but does not go into specifics.
