Man riding in support of jailed cop arrested

Outstanding fraud warrant stops Dunlop supporter in Cornwall

CORNWALL, Ont. — A Calgary man on a cross-country trek in support of a jailed police officer ended up taking an unexpected detour on Thursday.

Police in Cornwall, Ont., arrested Roger Robertson, 43, on an outstanding fraud warrant.

Robertson had been travelling across the country on a motorcycle in support of Perry Dunlop, who is serving a six-month jail sentence for refusing to testify at a long-running sexual abuse inquiry in Cornwall.

Dunlop is known for bringing to light allegations that a pedophile ring was operating in the Cornwall area.

Police would only confirm that Robertson had been arrested on a warrant stemming from an alleged fraud in 2004.

Robertson, who is originally from Cornwall, had been arrested twice as a young man by Dunlop.

He said he had great respect for Dunlop, who treated him “like a human being.”

On Wednesday, when Robertson arrived in Cornwall, he called it "corrupt" and said it sickens him every time he returns to the place he once called home.

"I hate this city. I hate what it stands for," he says. "I'm going to put Cornwall on the map — not as a friendly town, but as a pedophile town."

Robertson also condemned the city's long-running sexual abuse inquiry, calling it a "charade," a "taxpayer scam," and a "first-class circus."

He is scheduled to appear in Cornwall court Friday.
