Attention News Editors:

Cornwall Public Inquiry establishes research agenda on institutional practices and policies

CORNWALL, ON, June 30 /CNW Telbec/ - The Commission of the Cornwall

Public Inquiry has established a research agenda for Phase I of the Cornwall

Public Inquiry that will result in a series of reports on institutional

practices and policies in different jurisdictions.

This research is the first in a series of research-focused undertakings

that will play a vital role in the overall work of the Inquiry. While various

components of the research agenda will develop over the life of the Inquiry,

the main functions of all research work will be consistent - it will serve as

one important tool to support Inquiry recommendations, particularly in respect

to any future changes, and a critical and accessible source of education for

the public.

The Phase 1 research agenda will align with the presentation approach

taken to that phase of the Inquiry, which addresses each institution. The

Inquiry's research plan is to conclude the process of institutional review

with a research report on relevant practices and policies by institution.

Institutions included in the review and subsequent reports will include

police; child welfare/protection/CAS agencies; youth services provided by

governments or government agencies; prosecutorial services religious

institutions and school boards.

Like all other research undertakings planned, this phase of the research

started with a notice of proposed draft research to the parties, and benefited

from party comments and researcher suggestions. As planned research moves to

completion, it will be made available to parties and posted on the Inquiry

website: www.cornwallinquiry.ca.

Over the summer months, the Inquiry will also be developing an initial

Phase 2 research agenda, addressing healing and reconciliation. Phase 2

research will afford considerable scope for public, as well as party input.
