THE CORNWALL PUBLIC INQUIRY

The Honourable G. Normand Glaude, Commissioner

L’ENQUÊTE PUBLIQUE SUR CORNWALL

L’honorable G. Normand Glaude, commissaire

MEDIA ADVISORY

September 1, 200

Cornwall Public Inquiry announces schedule:

Evidentiary hearings to begin October 3, 2006

(Cornwall, ON) The fall schedule has been set for the Cornwall Public Inquiry.

During the week of September 5, 2006, the Inquiry will hear further context setting testimony. Started earlier in the year, this testimony was provided by a number of renowned experts whose research and experience served to frame a number of issues at stake in the Inquiry and helped to create a broader understanding of the earlier

factual evidence from a historical, legal and social perspective.

Father John Allan Loftus, a psychologist and Jesuit priest, will provide the expert testimony that begins September 5. Father Loftus is Director of the Jesuit Urban Center in Boston, and adjunct professor of psychology and the psychology of religion at Boston College.

The Inquiry will begin evidentiary hearings on October 3, 2006. Justice G. Norman Glaude, Commissioner of the Cornwall Public Inquiry, stressed the importance of completing an extensive redaction to protect the privacy of witnesses and the security of unrelated information, and to permit parties to properly prepare for the fall hearings. Parties have been allowed additional time to make changes to the redacted documents and to review these newly redacted documents

Starting October 3, the public will hear opening statements on behalf of parties with standing and from Commissioner Glaude, in anticipation of the Phase I evidentiary hearings.

Evidentiary hearings will continue throughout the remainder of the month.

It is important to note that there has been a slight change to the media protocol with regard to witnesses and their testimony during the evidentiary hearings. The media is advised to review the protocol, posted on the website under the Media section. The media may also review the Rules of Practice and Procedure – particularly the section that addresses confidentiality – with regard to witness testimony during this portion of the hearings.

The Inquiry hearings schedule is posted on the Inquiry website at ww.cornwallinquiry.ca

The witness list is updated regularly. As well, the full schedule of hearing dates for 2007 has also been posted on the Inquiry website
