Cornwall Public Inquiry

Perry Dunlop target of persecution

Editorial
Cornwall Standard Freeholder
23 February 2008

I was saddened and disappointed that Perry Dunlop was arrested on no other than our first Family Day. How ironic to be the person who exposed horrendous atrocities within our community of families and then for he and his family to be rewarded with arrest.

Of course, no day is a good day to be arrested. In Mr. Dunlop's situation, being arrested is absolutely ludicrous. I'm starting to believe that there really is no justice only a "law" with deep trenches of injustices that require digging up some common sense.

Even if there were possible errors made along the trail, the fact remains that the truth has been brought to light and we Cornwallites can no longer keep our heads in the sand. The fact is that abuse did occur and many victims' and their families' lives have been ruined or will never be the same.

I, for one, am proud of Mr. Dunlop and his family for sticking together and demonstrating so much courage during these tumultuous times. We must not allow people like Mr. Dunlop who chose to make a difference and expose the truth to be treated like a criminal. For those of us who wish to support Mr. Dunlop, is there anything we can do or anyone we may contact?

Cornwall
