Why would Perry want to return?

Cornwall Standard Freeholder

26 September 2007

When Helen Dunlop finished her testimony at the Cornwall Public Inquiry (Inquisition) Friday the phrase "Mission Accomplished" came to mind.

Her testimony shook the dust off her husband's halo and he's now riding a renewed high.

So, if I'm Perry Dunlop, now that I'm back in British Columbia, I'd turn down the inquiry's "invitation" to return in October, unless he really wants a paid vacation.

He could face some tough cross-examination that might leave more questions than answers and tarnish the halo.

Perry's got to know there's not a snowball's chance in hades that Commissioner Normand Glaude, who has worn out a dozen kid gloves during the inquiry, is going to have him charged and dragged back in handcuffs.

Shame on the RBC Cup organizing committee for giving everybody but former mayor Phil Poirier a bouquet and pat on the back for bringing the national hockey championship to the city in 2008.

Poirier was a big booster in the campaign to bring the RBC to Cornwall and took time out to travel to Calgary for the presentation to the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA).

Good for Mayor Bob Kilger for correcting the absence of recognition during the committee's presentation to council Monday night.

Polls are suggesting Fibber McGuinty will be back in the preem's office on Oct. 11 for another four years.

If that happens, why would he want to keep any of his current campaign promises?

And why would we reward a guy for slapping the biggest tax increase (health-care premium) on us after promising not to?
