Dunlop plans on keeping mum for inquiry

A former police officer serving a jail sentence for refusing to testify at a public inquiry he helped spark is appealing his contempt conviction, but still has no plans to give evidence at the sex-abuse probe.

Perry Dunlop, who had previously represented himself, has engaged prominent Ottawa counsel Lawrence Greenspon to handle the appeal, which he initially filed himself as an inmate.

Dunlop’s personal challenge of his civil contempt conviction, which was spoken to in a Kingston, Ont., courtroom two weeks ago, has now been converted into what’s called a solicitor’s appeal under Greenspon.

“There is an appeal pending,” Greenspon said in an interview.

The lawyer, who has just taken on the case, said he was still delving into the file and had few further details about the nature of the appeal.

“I haven’t really gotten into the full background of it yet.”

Dunlop, 46, was convicted of both civil and criminal contempt of court in March after he ignored an order from the inquiry in Cornwall, to testify and then defied a court order that he do so. He said he had no faith in the public inquiry or the justice system.

“This whole thing should be thrown out,” Dunlop’s wife, Helen, said from their home in Duncan, B.C.

“They’re punishing Perry because he won’t acquiesce to the powers that be. We won’t be part of the cover-up.”

The long-running judicial inquiry is probing how the police and other public institutions responded to allegations of systemic sexual abuse, dating back decades, in the eastern Ontario city. The Dunlops remain steadfast in their belief that the ring was real and that they’re the victims of a far-reaching conspiracy to conceal the truth.

In March, Dunlop was sentenced to six months on the civil contempt charge. He faces further jail time when his civil sentence expires in September and he’s then sentenced for the criminal contempt.

Dunlop’s lawyer said no decision has been made as to whether he will now testify. But Dunlop’s wife was adamant he won’t be testifying.

“He will not be part of the sham that is the inquiry that is costing taxpayers millions of dollars which is leaving children still at risk,” she said of the probe which has, so far, reportedly cost upwards of $30 million.

“They will never leave us alone. Never. They want Perry punished continually, and possibly forever.”

I support the Dunlops in their dealings with the inquiry 100%. By the way i was cut off from making anymore comments yesterday. Not once did i swear or say anything vulgar.

Wether anyone admits it or not,any person who has ears and eyes and has followed the inquiry can see there has been a big cover up and that none of the key players involved have ever been summoned to the inquiry only small bit part players. All the people that are really needed to testify are unfotunately not able to testify because they got a doctors note that forgives them.

I was cut off as well and they have also edited my posts. I suggest you do a print screen and start saving after your posts are shown. Keep a paper trail. If they can edit out they can also edit in.

As for the key players not testifying, they are no different then Perry. He chose to serve his time the others kind of took the easy way out.

Roger dodger..What about the brave victoms that gave there story at the weave shed..They thought Perry would be there to back them up..they are the hero's is this not what its all about..the victoms..lets not lose focus.

Where is the es police chief where is the ex Bishop where are the lawyers that set up the deal for payoff and where is the priest that got off cause it took to long to come to trial, who,s fault was that the system of Cornwall justice criminals go free. How about putting the others who have refused to tesify in jail with Perry, sorry I forgot they have friends in high places so they get a pass to stay out. And why does Mr. Dunlop not have a paid for lawyer like the rest to protect his rights.

There are 2 kinds of justice in this world, justice for those who have money/connections, then there is justice for people like you and me..I knew Perry some what when I was in Cornwall and he was to me an honest forthright person. But maybe in todays world there is no more place for a person to slay the windmills if you catch my meaning..I hope that Perry gets justice and that those bad actors get thier just dues also...

Good point OUTWEST..Perry could end all by just telling his story and get on with life.
However his group insists that its better to stay the course.

When I attended the town hall meeting I saw a girl that was devastated at the loss of companionship from her Dad and the effects happening to her sisters. Its just so sad that this can be avoided.I have some friends that are victoms and took the stand,And when Perry's turn came they were devistated he failed to help support them..The more information comes out the support gets less and less for Perry.

Who has the movie rights???

Reply | Report | Page Top Post #8 By itinerant,

itinerant,I am not sure if there is money in Canadian non fiction flicks...

Reply | Report | Page Top Post #9 By 2 sides 2 a story,

Perry already told his story. He also sublitted files or copies of the ministers and other institutions. What more do they want him to do?

I agree with him it is nothing more then a way to discredit people while making money to do it.

I would like to see the legal tell owner of the Weave Shed that the building is now sequesterd for the inquiry. I wonder how they would feel about that. I mean the vistims are not making much for this nor would a jury should it be required. Therefore why should the owners of the Weave Shed.

Reply | Report | Page Top Post #10 By itinerant,

I think the owners of the weave shed are just landlords leasing space.

I am not sure what that has to do with Perry et al..or this topic????

All's I am saying is there is more damage being done being Bull headed than what the reward will be at the end of the day..Everyone that the Dunlops have touched have been let down..This is not just my opinion but the opinion of the greater part of our community...I highly think that a 10,000 signature petition would happen again..rick

The comment as to sequestering the Weave Shed as opposed leasing would apply to motivation as opposed to potential financial abuse.

Currently there is neither motivation nor encouragement of any sort for the Inquiry to move forward. If people were told that there is no more funds to, shall we generalize this time and say abuse, then there would exist encouragement form all levels to focus on the task and not waste time with semantics and procrastination.

Like I said itinerant and 2sides2astory, bull-sh*t baffles brains and from the looks of your talking about nothing to help those abused adults, we'll just cut out the "Brains" part of the above and you are left with bull-sh*t which is about what both of you are ALL about. As well as being gutless, eh 2sides2astory? I hear your acquaintances have to wear "flak jackets" so they don't have to pull as many knives out of their backs after being around you!!!Any truth to that "rumour" as I've heard it from quite a few people already so I guess, "where there's smoke, there's fire", eh?

Yak, yak, yak, yak, yak and it goes on and on and on and on and on with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING GETTING EITHER SOLVED OR DONE!! You ALL must be so proud to be from a city with a Rep like Y'all have, even the Americans stay away or when they do come over to CornHole they must wear a "chastity belt" to protect themselves in your Hole. What did I hear about that sign that says when tourists cross over into Canada this year, "YOU ARE NOW ENTERING THE CITY OF CORNHOLE, ALL MALES MUST BE EXCEPTIONALLY VIGILANT WHEN BENDING OVER WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS!!!!" What a "Rep" and did you notice that the tourists aren't coming and the facts of the matter are that even Domtar got smart and moved.

Well itinerant, this is "2sides2astory" reply to YOU yesterday and you're listening to his bull-sh*t and neither have you gotten any further than you were yesterday or the day before or a couple of years ago. I think the question I have to leave you with Itinirant, are you "as stupid" or "as smart" as this 2sides2astory, I wonder about that! So do others and you took that slap from him about Perry and Helen, grow some balls itinerant!!

""" itinerant,Talk is cheap people. What can we do about it?????????

Convince Helen to take HER chain off of Perry and let him tell the story.

The true hero's are the alledged victoms who told about there past at the Weave shed..WHAT value to his family is Perry getting..His girls are going crazy that Dad's not there for them..This Perry will never be able to replace. Its easy for everyone to say hold your ground Perry but who has the most to lose...What about his grand Mom?? The kids..his job..Get to the weave shed and answer one question slowly at a time..Just like the victoms have done..rick"""

So itinerant and 2sides2astory, just what have you accomplished with the BS that you were writing about, didja come to any conclusion or did you just come and as well, what good did either of you do to help and pulleeeeeeease don't tell me that you even got anything done other than your normal BS, we can ALL read. Itinerant, you're the one that mouths off time and time again saying "What do we do?", well it must have taken you a long time to both come up with and remembering that phrase because that's all that sticks out in your "Rants". By the by, have you and 2x2 got the other guy for your "menage e tois"(I think it's something like that, I ain't bilingual)or are y'all still looking. Hey Gramps, you "up" to it? Better be careful, don't want to have a heart attack or anything neat like that, eh?

I have never once disrespected any victims all i was saying is that Perry Dunlop did the right thing and I support he his wife and his family whole heartedly. I have two grandchildren that were victims of a pedophile so i have no reason to disrespect any victim. Is that a good enough reply for you 2 sides 2 a story. I feel terrible for the victims but I also feel terrible that Perry who did the right thing has had to endure this abomination called an inquiry and to have his reputation torn to shreds by this totally unjust system.

Do i classify Perry Dunlop as a hero ? Yes I do because he was willing to put his career and his entire way of life on the line to help protect children. I would be proud to have the man as my neighbour.
