More Sex Offenders Than Cops?

Cornwall News AM 1220

January 17, 2007Cornwall is home to nearly one registered sex offender for every city cop and there appears to be a disparity in the concentration of registered sex offenders in small communities like Cornwall. According to Police Chief, Dan Parkinson, that's a strain on smaller police forces like Cornwall, Belleville and Timmins when it comes to keeping track of those individuals. Larger centre can have more than 1,000 officers and a couple of hundred offenders. Parkinson tells AM 1220 News in Cornwall, there are over 60 registered sex offenders and only 87 officers, and not all of those officers are "front line" officers. Parkinson is quick to point out that they treat the offenders as a high priority. He says the cops know where they live and check in on them regularly and that the offenders are aware of that.

Inquiry Costs Climb For Police Service

The police board approved the latest statement today for December totaling just over $240,000. Deputy Police Chief, Dan Aikman tells AM 1220 News it's hard to say if the bill for 2007 will be as expensive as last year.
