Dunlop's daughter speaks out

Cornwall Standard Freeholder

02 May 2008

Posted By Michael Peeling

[theinquiry.ca note:  Perry was transferred back to the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre 30 April 2008]

Perry Dunlop's youngest daughter, Monica, spoke out on her father's behalf for the first time Thursday.

The Grade 10 student talked of the struggles and trials her family has endured, particularly since Dunlop, a former Cornwall police officer, was sentenced to six months in jail March 6 on a charge of civil contempt for refusing to testify at the Cornwall Public Inquiry.

Dunlop investigated historical allegations of the sexual abuse of children by members of the local clergy, youth counsellors and others community figures in the early 1990s, largely on his own time.

He remains in custody at the Quinte Detention Centre near Ottawa, but has filed an intention to appeal the sentence.

"I've already seen things that will haunt me for the rest of my life," said Monica, 16, on the stage of the Cornwall Army, Navy and Air Force Club in front of close to 100 people. "I saw my father taken from the front steps of our home."

Monica, whose mother Helen described her as very close to Perry, recalled fondly, yet emotionally the love of music she shared with her father and the laughter the entire family experienced together.

"I never appreciated these things as much until I couldn't do them anymore," Monica said.

She talked of how her oldest sister, Marly, 19, has almost completely withdrawn to the point where they have all but lost their connection.

Heather, 17, has opted to "distract herself" by spending most of her time cultivating a social life instead of dealing with the reality of Perry's situation.

"It's affected my mom as well," said Monica, unable to contain tears. "Although I've never known her without these problems, it has put a strain on our relationship. I can't come home from school and tell her about the problems I'm having anymore."

Having her dad in jail has also taken a significant toll on her relationships outside the home.

"I've become more isolated and I find it hard to talk to my friends," she said. "It's hard to tell them what I'm going through because I don't know how to explain it . . . I'm angry all the time. I just want my dad to come home."

Monica expressed her wish to be a psychologist who helps children who have suffered abuse.

"I love kids so much," said Monica, who has been baby-sitting since Grade 9. "It makes me sad to think such terrible things could happen to them."

Monica concluded by calling Cornwall Public Inquiry Commissioner Normand Glaude, the Divisional Court of Ontario and Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty "cowards" for putting Perry in jail.

"Who will report abuse now?" she said to them.

Invitations, admittedly on short notice, were sent to MP Guy Lauzon, MPP Jim Brownell, Cornwall Chief of Police Dan Parkinson, Comm. Glaude and Bishop Paul-Andre Durocher, but none accepted as Helen noted no one representing them was present at the meeting.

Helen said the town hall meeting is what she "hopes and does not hope" to be the first of many.

Well Mrs Dunlop what you need is a lawyer defending the rights of your husband at the inquiry where he is being accused of many things and has no one there to represent his rights that is wrong this commission is paying for lawyers for everyone else, every cop who takes the stand has the lawyer there to object for evry little thing, so my question is why does Mr, Dunlop not have the right to have a spokes person to represent him ? Anyone cae to answer this for me please. After all he is sitting in jail for what it says you are requested to appear , how come those others who refuse to appear are not also put in jail. how about this Mr. Claude the commisioner.

This is clear need for Whistleblower Legislation to back up Mandatory Reporting Legislation. CLEARLY THE GOVERNMENT HAS CONSISENTLY PREVENTED THAT TYPE OF LEGISLATION TO PASS IN RECENT HISTORY. WE CANNOT ANY LONGER ALLOW THERE TO BE A DEAD ZONE IN WHICH THE WHISTLEBLOWER IS VUNERABLE TO A LIFE OF ABUSE. IF WE ARE A DEMOCRACY THEN WE NEED THIS LEGISLATION AND IT NEEDS TO BE GRANDFATHERED BACK TO PERRY DUNLOP. INFACT IT SHOULD BE KNOWN AS THE PERRY DUNLOP WHISTLEBLOWER ACT.

The whole issue is a illusion. Some one who serves is Under you. Therefore a Priest or a Cop is a Servent, not a Master. Yet the roles are Exactly the Opposite as to the meaning of the role. We all know that the Cop holds the power and the priest...therefore they do not serve they command and if we do not obey then lookout. Yet when it comes to actualy identity of the Role, which is a servent, they always hide under thier skirts of power.

If the world would wake up and look around, you will find democracy is an illusion. Elite people decide everything, we are the serfs.

Dearest Monica, Marlee and Heather:

You are experiencing what I do not wish on anyone, not even my worst enemies.
That is, a battle with “the system” and the motivations or rationalizations, influencing “its” current interpretation of, “for the greater good”.

In our society or any society, no one should be forced to experience what you are experiencing.
i.e.) You are “paying dearly, for doing the right thing.”

This is not easy as you know and yes, believe me, you will never forget.

Your Dad, is one brave man, who courageously stood tall, above the “self-preservationist-cowards”.

“Against all odds”, your Dad acted like the Leader he is, to protect children.

I urge you to rejoice on this fact. Your Dad is a hero who chose or “was chosen”, to do the right thing. Your Mom is a hero for supporting and protecting him and victims.

Consequently, at the same time your Dad acted, revelations were discovered surrounding what many people believe to be substantial improprieties by his peers, his superiors and other authorities.

Many people also believe, a combination of two or more people, by concerted action, constructed plans to commit criminal or unlawful acts, or, to commit lawful acts by criminal or unlawful means”; i.e. “cover-up”.

I believe, in 1993 and before, your Dad knew very well, what it was like working with the “Cornwall Police Services.” Testimony at the Inquiry has “validated” his concerns.

I believe, with this experience and knowledge, your Dad consciously or otherwise, “weighed” the consequences of taking the brave risk of “reporting” to Children’s Aid and subsequently, following-up, when other “alleged” victims attempted to contact him and your Mom and/or actually contacted them.

Your Dad chose to do, one year “after-the-fact”, what the Cornwall Police Services, were obligated by law, to do, immediately upon discovery of the “allegations”. Your Dad clearly knew the “Cornwall Police Services” and how he had to act, immediately.

Growth and transformation can only occur with risk taking and with risk taking, there are consequences, positive and/or negative. But, as hero’s and courageous warriors, risk takers, who are willing to take on the types of challenges your Dad and Mom have chosen to take on, are few and very far between.

I believe yours, is a very fortunate family, a “Blessed” family, who have already been able to help many, many people. I believe you will help many, many more.

The anger about what has happened to your Dad and the realization of the effects on you, your family, others and everything you have touched in life and will touch, will be always, just a heartbeat away.

I pray that somehow, you will discover how to harness the anger and resentment you will carry and how your experiences will be able to help others, understand and cope.

I made two very clear choices for our future. I wonder which one will play out? Will we wakeup and take back our "democracy" or will the illusion continue, most people dulled into TV and Media, unaware of the truth behind the Masters? You really have no idea whats going on until you go to Inforwars daily.

I have asked them to put up the Perry Dunlop story but they have bigger fish to fry. Be that as it may, this is no different then the rest of the crap we take in everyday and turn a blind eye as the public.

The Masters could give a rats ass about you or your son in Afghanistan. War on Terror, TOTAL AND BLANET LIE.

Perry Dunlop is a symptom of the disease. He is evidence that it is raging like a cancer and unless we wake up and take back OUR RIGHTS, we will continue to be the Serfs and they will be the Masters.

So lets stand up and lets gather a petition across this country of Canada and lets create the Perry Dunlop Whistleblower Act. That way in the end he will be Vindicated and Honoured and Remembered for everything he did for us, and that is all of us, every single damn one of us in Canada. And his legicay will carry on in a important and unique way. I think its high time we became the Masters.
