COFFE BREAK: Conspiracy theory will live on

Cornwall Standard Freeholder

21 June 2008

Posted By CLAUDE MCINTOSH

The provincial government has invested millions of dollars in the Cornwall Public Inquiry in the belief/hope that it will write the final chapter of the Cornwall sex abuse saga, a black cloud that has plagued this community for almost two decades.

The inquiry, becoming one of the longest and most expensive in the province's history, has done and will do some good things.

It has given many sex abuse survivors a sympathetic forum in which to tell their stories of how they were abused.

And behind the scenes a healing network has been established and is actively working with abuse victims.

Unfortunately, what the inquiry will not do is put to rest bizarre conspiracy theories that have been fueled by rogue websites with official sounding names.

In most cases, Commissioner Normand Glaude has heard evidence about how institutions dealt with sex abuse cases 20, 30 and 40 years ago.

He is being asked to judge institutional response from another era.

Institutions such as the police, social agencies and even the Roman Catholic Church have improved the process.

They do things differently.

Except to conclude that there was no conspiracy, no coverup by authorities, the report can't make many recommendations that haven't already evolved over the last 20 years.

In some ways, it is like examining the way the auto industry produced vehicles in the 1960s and making recommendations to improve them.

Most of the problems have been corrected.

This one you can take to the bank: Regardless of what the commissioner's report says, the conspiracy theorists and the website operators are not going to be satisfied.

Glaude (and his report) will be added to the list of conspirators.

The inquiry has been dismissed by these people as a sham and they have painted the commissioner as a puppet in charge of a show trial.

When the author of the bizarre pedophile clan story came clean with the hoax, the conspiracy theorists said he had been coerced by authorities to recant. Some even suggested he had been paid off.

It was the same claim when an alleged victim said he was told to make up his story so he could cash in on a lawsuit.

Conspiracy theories -- promoted by conspiratorialists -- have a long, long shelf life.

It has been 45 years since John F. Kennedy was assassinated, yet there are still people who dismiss the Warren Report -- the exhaustive study that concluded Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone -- as a state-sponsored coverup.

In a strange way, Glaude's report will probably throw more gasoline on the conspiracy fire, giving it new life for at least a few more years.

COFFEE GRINDS

* Art Holbrook, a filmmaker from Victoria, B. C., is exploring the possibility of doing a documentary centred around ex-Cornwall copper Perry Dunlop.

* Mike Oliver, former Cornwall labour activist and retired jail guard, checks in from Nanaimo, B. C., where he now resides.

Oliver says Perry Dunlop is some sort of folk hero in that neck of the woods and the view of Cornwall is something less than flattering.

* Just a thought -- Who is going to enforce the pesticide ban law? Are we going to have pesticide police?

* And next year's headline could read -- "Contraband pesticide ring busted".

* Steph Dion says his "Green Shift" (gotta be careful to get that 'f ' in there) will be revenue neutral.

Gee, now where have we heard that one before?

* Recommended viewing: "Treasures of The Lost Villages", the work of local filmmakers John Earle and Frank Burelle, is showing this morning -- 10 o'clock -- at the Galaxy. It's a sequel to "Submerged".

Both films deal with the massive St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Project that is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Like Claude said and he is always right nothing happened it was all a bad dream and every one of the people that were charged were innocent of everything and every one of the victims were liars and the police and everyone involved all did the right thing. Two words Claude (SHUT UP)!

Oh Grand Poohba you are so always right. We hang on your every word as the "Truth" in this crumbling saga you call the Cornwall Conspiracies. You have taught your many followers well - the arrogant will rule. It does not matter that there may be other views or opinions, omissions and facts because we follow only YOU and only YOU knows the TRUTH. Your overbearing manner, presumtuious claims and assumptions have won over the hearts of the Citizens of Cornwall. Arrogance rules the day.

OH Grand Poohba - we salute you in your quest for the truth. and publishing that truth! I kneel before you and wait for more deliverance!

How can people still believe that things are being covered up? It is quite obvious that certain "players" have orchestrated this whole charade. Claude is quite right in his comments and, I commend him for all the flak that he is taking.

The individual who started the snowball rolling is presently in jail; and he refuses to appear and testify before the Commission! Is there something to "hide"???

Get a life Conspiracy-theorists. Convince your "hero" to testify!!!

Don't give up, Claude.

Shaver receive his notice of alledged misconduct yet???

Reply | Report | Page Top Post #5 By RealityChecker

To hell with all the people with their heads in the sand like gardnergillis not until one of their children are molested will they believe it can happen but no they have perfect families that that would never happen to. I think this town deserves the reputation it has gotten because of people just like you with the attitude that it could never happen here as long as people have that attitude then nothing will change. I will no longer respond to this blog or anything that this idiot Claude or any of his followers have to say I mean what's the point if it did not happen to them it could not have happened.

Reply | Report | Page Top Post #6 By dodger,

and to answer your question RealityChecker no Shaver did not get a notice of any kind better question is why the Bishop who signed the check for the 32,000 dollar bribe is not subpoenaed or how about even Jacques Leduc to explain how they could authorize something that was so illegal a bribe to shut a complainant up.

yes claude.and in the 1970,s there were no corrupt police working in the city of cornwall.and there were no victims of abuse in the reform schools in ontario.canada doesnt go after war criminals{ who cares} and of course there was no holocause.why cant you or your paper print the real evedence that is being heard by all down at the inquirey,in stead of watered down reporting are you told what to print.you seem to always defended the people accused of these crimes and stick up for them.you say there lifes are ruined by false accusations well then claude round them all up and take them down to this inquirey and have them take the stand in there own defence.not throught you or your one sided thinking and reporting.and tell them not to worry thell get lots of help in what to say and will probarlly get the questions that will be asked so they can have a good testimony.this inquirey is to me corrupt i dont have to wait till its done.(been there did that}

gardnergillis,Your post is right on the money...Dunlop loaded up the train promising alleged victoms help is on its way.. and then un hooked the train and went west young man in hiding..The fact he gave the paper work to C.A.S was the act of a hero..After that his acts were criminal..75-85 million was on his mind from day TWO..Lets not forget that..The true HERO'S ARE THE VICTOMS THAT TOOK THE STAND and told there stories...Also lets not forget the day that DUNLOP was going to testify the amount of public support that attended at the weave shed do be let down again from there hero????

My comment is that these are all stunts, the Web site a stunt..The town hall meeting a stunt..80 million a stunt..Its time to wake up and smell the coffee.

Reply | Report | Page Top Post #11 By 2 sides 2 a story,

your right on the money gardnergillis, its all about the money but lets look at it the right way.you say perry dunlop had only 75 or 80 million on his mind. well sir thats peanuts lets say every victim sued for 75 or 80 million but at the end came out with 1 million in compensation not counting all the legal bills etc.my guess it will cost the insurance companys not the tax payers about 800 million dollars or more.the inquirey will cost the tax payers when all said and done 60 million.{not the insurance companys}.now just who is it that has all this money on there mind.i think the inquirey is a stunt.(money talks the truth walks}

Ha..ha...ha.. oh yes, "hilarious"...the "kool-aid" drinkers....(get it); including "2sides" and now the "gardnergillis".

The "Grand Poobah" McIntosh, writes, "Oliver says Perry Dunlop is some sort of folk hero in that neck of the woods and the view of Cornwall is something less than flaterring."

Gee, didn't Mr. Oliver and McIntosh "keep in touch" on a more than regular basis when Mr. Oliver lived in Cornwall? Oh, he also, "went west young man."

Well, I'm sorry to have to tell you this people, but, the "view" of Cornwall had been formed long before Dunlop and long before 1992. Mr. Oliver has "moved", he hears it now and perhaps, concludes, it's all because of sexual abuse allegations and "the inquiry".

To this day and on a recent trip to Montreal and Toronto, I am reminded, "I told you so!!", by people who warned me in 1989, "do not move to Cornwall" and by some people, who had lived and worked in Cornwall, prior to my arrival.

"Cornwall is RUN by one or two groups of people who, CONTROL everything"; "they ruin people who "are in the way" or do not conform to "their" objectives, "rules"". Furthermore, I was "informed", the city has many people, who appear to blindly follow, the more prominent and powerful citizens, hoping or expecting some benefit, placement or recognition, professionally or through private, social or other affiliations.

They told me, many people, who "can" leave the city, "do" leave the city, leaving fewer, who are able and willing to confront the others and hold them accountable.

I didn't believe this "medieval" thinking could still exist, for it would surely lead to the "death" of a community.

Well, in my opinion, it surely existed, as I experienced, in Cornwall.

The aforementioned, is what has given this City a negative "persona" EVERYWHERE and existing for a long, long time.

Additionally, the unwillingness to admit "facts", "accept responsibility-accountability", take positive and progressive action to "change" and "move on", re-affirms, this belief.
THERE will never be "change" when people are controling, threatening, intimidating and coercing other people into fear and silence, through overt actions/ommissions or through veiled and implied suggestion.

I heard about this "closed community" before I came to Cornwall in 1989, I saw it and experienced it when I resided in Cornwall and I have seen it since and heard about "the same", by countless credible and reputable "people", who "KNOW" Cornwall,....since I left in 2000.

"Veiled" intimidation such as "2sides" implying he knows the "general" whereabouts that I reside and "LocalReader" posting some time ago, "JAMES"SPEAKOUT", you left Cornwall and went to greener pastures.

I ask, how could "LocalReader" or others have known which "JAMES" I was...well, one of the ways...I did provide more information when I registered with the "Standard-Freeholder"....conspiracy?

AND for anyone to continue attacking Perry for not showing. I mean, really, are you sick!! YOU are going to WIN, no matter what, yes WIN!!and you know it, but, that is not enough...even if he is in jail for the next 500 years...or dies, it will never be enough and....you know why, don't you?

Guess some of you wish I had never moved to Cornwall. Well, I continue to get calls "to this day", please "JAMES" "SPEAK OUT", continue to "SPEAK OUT", we are afraid to.

Reply | Report | Page Top Post #17 By JAMES "SPEAK OUT",

thankyou james.ive lived in cornwall all my life, ive known about what your speaking since i was 9years old.i would and could tell people many things that ive had to experence or seen.there are a lot of people who [think there above the law ] are above the law .and can get away with anything just because of there posistions they hold in society.and on the other side there are a lot of good people ive met,who in my opion are afraid to speak out.it hasnt changed since 1960s and isnt going to change now.unless they lock up all the trouble makers{victims#supporters]

James Post # 17, you left out one other back-stabber other than that "2faced" clown, you forgot about Itinerant or shall I say that they should BOTH **NEVER BE TRUSTED!** and should be forgotten about. Pretty easy way to do it all, just let them have the run of this thread and the hell with them and Cornwall, it's just as "doomed" as they are!

Claude,
There are a few questions that nobody has ever addressed in the inquiry.Who were all the people using the Parkway when Save Mart was still around? There and the Cardinal Motel are known by many older folks, most now dieing or dead, as a place of play for many prominent city and government kind. The old King George building on Pitt and Second Str, What about the goings on upstairs in that building. There was even talk from people then with children’s aid about it. But it is has since burned down. The old fellow that use to have his blue rag top caddy, with two or three kids in it on most warm summer days. Use to take them swimming and stuff up on Pitt North.
We were all told to avoid himWhat about the infamous government official which Perry sent documents to. He was going to blow the lid off this issue in the house. But instead he has a file cabinet of documents with names blacked out. Claude you may be considered a good reporter or writer by your peers, but hey let’s face it is just the media, Not a group much respected by anyone. If you want real credibility and not just a pension I think a little more research would be in order. But as you once told me "it's just an opinion"

Your Comment: Well now isn't THAT an interesting bit of history! Thanks for the info Itinerant!Seems the Cornwall Police Service has a huge problem related to the old King George - odd that it would have such a history and is back in the spotlight. How the Cornwall Police Services bungled the investigation of the King George fire and targeted the owner of the King George for alledged arson and illegal wiretapping, is the subject of a MAJOR lawsuit.

http://www.canlii.org/en/on/onsc/doc/2008/2008canlii571/2008canlii571.pdf

Cornwall Police Services, Bissonette, Racine, Brunet, Snyder, Repa, the Ottawa Police Services Board, Chief Vince Bevan, Kilmartin, Murray MacDonald, Roberts and the Ontario AG are the defendants.Abuse of process and Charter Right issues are at the heart of the police actions. Read and weep. ...and Snyder testified he's never been sued then had to do an about face on the stand when he was presented with this court action.

post 13 i agreed it is about money.about how much can be saved if they make the commisioner and the tax payers believe.everybody did there jobs to the best of there ability.nobody turned a blind eye on any of the complaints and all the abusers[of course only the ones that hold a position in socity are all innocent of this terrible crimes]if they wanted the powers that be, could make a serial rapist look like a boyscout and set him free.and i have know anger against whats happened or is happening .just hoping for justice once and for all.so when i do need that happy pill maybe you could give me a few.

To RealityChecker regarding your question on the prior page "Uh....where do lawsuits go when the plaintiff is dead? I gather la la land." If I'm not correct, the institutions that were involved will eventually get "forked" for the money via their Insurance companies that they have been paying for their policys.

Reply | Report | Page Top Post #31 By saintpeter-47

Who knows, between that and the expense of the Inquiry will be enough to make people think about doing the right thing the next time, rather than ignoring it. Who knows, after the dust has settled, those that were abused who get their due justice through money from the various sources through lawsuits, might just be inclined to loan some of their money to help that place stay afloat, unless they open up the St. Lawrence which might also help keep it afloat or not! Did you know that St. Lawrence is related to me?

Reply | Report | Page Top Post #32 By saintpeter-47

My husband would like to say a few things regarding MacIntosh: First you say millions of dollars were spent to cover up the black cloud that has plagued the community, then you say the Inquiry will do some good things, it gives victims somewhere to tell of their abuse with a network set up to actively help them. SO are you saying all these institutions and agencies accused had NO knowledge of what the others were doing? Do you even know what " CONSPIRACY MEANS?" lEGAL DEFINITION "A SECRET AGREEMENT OR COMBINATION BETWEEN TWO OR MORE PERSONS TO COMMIT AN UNLAWFUL ACT". As for how institutions dealt with sexual abuse up to 40 years ago, I don't care if it was 400 years ago, if more than 1 person figured how they could keep it out of the public eye that is A CONSPIRACY! As more people become involved, the plot thickens. I'm glad you compared this with the Kennedy assassination because that is exactly what you have here! A number of people with their reputations to protect in charge of ALL THE EVIDENCE that has disappeared and what remains is hidden by bizarre testimony, and let's definitely not forget the scape-goat who was IMMEDIATLEY SILENCED! The only difference is approx. 15 years ago when the plan failed to silence the scape-goat, THEY did the next best thing, VICIOUSLY ATTACKED HIS CREDIBILITY. I find it quite disturbing that someone who is supposed to report the news takes it upon himself to predict the news. NOBODY knows what the Commissioner's report is going to be, yet YOU try to cover all bases by predicting it will fuel the fire. Of course it will have different opinions from everyone because we are individuals capable of having our own opinions. That is why conspiracy "theories" have long shelf lives, because we are not mindless drones, people think for themselves, and it's only a theory if it's not true. In closing I'd like YOU to know I've heard all about how YOU deal with people approaching you with problems. I really don't agree with such a closed minded person trying to expand the knowledge of others. Sounds to me like quite an oxymoron but for arguments sake, well just say your the latter of that word!

As for me (marieangel), I'm speaking to you Claude, EVERYTIME I READ YOUR ARTICLES IT MAKES ME SICK TO THINK YOU WERE EVER RELATED TO ME. I KNOW THE WAY YOU WERE, HOW EGOTISTICAL, SELF-CENTERED, SELF-CONSUMMING AND ALWAYS THINKING YOU WERE SOME GOD! WELL, I AM NOT ONE TO SPEAK UN-KINDLY OF OTHERS BUT IT IS REALLY HARD TO HOLD MY TONGUE WHEN I SEE SUCH DAMAGING WORDS THAT YOU ARE DOING TO VICTIMS, I ONLY CAN ASSUME THAT YOU ARE WORKING FOR THE PERPETRATORS!!! HOW CAN THE STANDARD FREEHOLDER KEEP YOU AS A WRITER!! CORNWALL SHOULD MAKE CHANGE AND ADD NEW WORKERS FOR DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS! BRING IN THE YOUNGER PEOPLE, YOU KNOW, THE ONES WHO COME FROM THE VICTIMS, THEIR CHILDREN I'M SURE WOULD DO A GREAT JOB, THEIR WOULD BE NO LIES OR HIDDEN SECRETS!! BECAUSE THEY WOULD KNOW WHERE THERE'S A PERP TO BE SEEN BECAUSE THEY LEARNED FROM THE VERY BEST THE "VICTIMS", OR SHOULD I SAY THE "SURVIVORS"!!!!!
