Ed Lumley Champions Hospital Fundraising Campaign

[14 December 2004. This is a “News and Events” posting on the Cornwall Community Hospital website]

Former MP Ed Lumley has joined the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation’s new fundraising campaign in the special role of Honourary Campaign Chairman.

The Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation has taken on the task of raising the community’s share of the funding for the new hospital. Campaign Co-Chairs Tom and Gail Kaneb are delighted to welcome the Honourable Edward C. Lumley aboard for such a crucial community initiative.

“Ed has been fabulous to work with from the beginning,” says Gail Kaneb. “He is involved in much more than an honourary capacity. He has been extremely active on the Leadership Gifts Committee. When he’s in town, Ed makes every meeting, despite having such a busy schedule. His input has been invaluable, and he always does what he says he will do.” Tom Kaneb agrees. “This project is the single most important project undertaken in this community in the last 50 years, since the two present-day hospital sites were built. To have Ed Lumley’s participation in the campaign is a giant step forward to realizing our long-term goal of $10 million.”

The Honourable Edward C. Lumley is currently Vice-Chairman of BMO Nesbitt Burns. He was Mayor of the City of Cornwall and Chairman of the Police Commission from 1972 – 1974. Lumley then represented the former riding of Stormont-Dundas as Member of Parliament from 1974 – 1984. During this time, he served in a number of capacities, including Minister of Industry, International Trade, Regional Economic Development, Communications, and Science & Technology.

Mr. Lumley has chaired the Commission on Parliamentary Compensation and the Canada-Japan Forum. Over the years, he has also been involved in numerous local and national non-profit organizations, and is now pleased to help realize the construction of the new Cornwall Community Hospital.

“There is no question that the Cornwall Community Hospital Campaign is the most important project to be undertaken by the citizens of our area in many years,” says Lumley. “I look forward to doing my part to ensure its success.”
