Cops Issue Public Safety Alert In Relation To Sex Offender

June 07, 2007 — Cornwall Police have issued a public safety alert in relation to a convicted sex offender. 45-year old James Lewis is scheduled to be released from custody Monday after serving a six-month plus a day jail sentence. He spent time behind bars for indecent assault on a male that occurred in 1982. He also has possession of child pornography convictions. Police say Lewis will not be living in our community but officers are reminding you to be aware of your surroundings. City police will be closely monitoring the conditions of his release.

CORNWALL — In the interest of community safety, the Cornwall Community Police are issuing a public safety alert regarding the release of convicted pedophile James Lewis.

Lewis, 45, is scheduled to be released from custody after having served a six-month jail sentence for an indecent assault on a male that occurred in 1982.

Lewis has convictions dating back to 2005, including possession of child pornography.
He is described as a white male, 5'5", 120 lbs, with short brown hair and brown eyes. He is subject to numerous conditions as a result of a probation order that includes:

• No contact with the victim who is now an adult male.

• A weapons prohibition.

• No contact with anyone under the age of 18 without the written permission of his probation officer.

• Not to possess any child pornography, computer, satellite or Blackberry type device capable of imaging child pornography.

Police information at this time is that Lewis will not be residing within the community, however the Cornwall Community Police Service is still advising the public to use caution at all times and to practise sound crime prevention and safety measures at all times.
