Perry Dunlop
Local man urging people to donate to the DunlopsAccount opening to take donations for family of Perry Dunlop

A local man has come up with a unique way for supporters to help Duncan's Dunlop family as they continue to fight to get Perry Dunlop out of an Ontario jail and bring him back home to his community.

Bernie Langkammer said Wednesday that he'd looked at the government plan to send out cheques as rebates for the upcoming carbon tax and thought people could put that money to good use.

"My idea is this hundred dollars we're all getting back from the government, well, those of us who think $100 isn't going to make or break us, could donate it to them (the Dunlops). Or if somebody wants to donate $20, that would be great, too."

It's an unexpected windfall and perhaps people could share some of it with a local family that needs some support right now, he said.

"Apparently, the Dunlops have hired a lawyer in Ottawa and they need to pay for that," he said.

Helen Dunlop has an account at the Duncan branch of CIBC bank and will be opening a special account for the donations, he said.

"Those cheques should be coming in any day now. People can donate at the Duncan branch of the CIBC or any branch of the bank throughout the province. The woman I spoke to at the bank said she could send out e-mails to all the branches in B.C. and I thought, 'Why not go for all of the province?' People can start donating right away."
