Inquiry Witness Aware Of Abuse But Did Almost Nothing

Cornwall News AM 1220

January 18, 2008 — A witness at the Cornwall Public Inquiry faced some tough questions when he admitted he knew of a child sex abuse allegation and did not follow through. Former Probation Officer Jos Van Diepen testified a person on probation came to him alleging abuse. Van Diepen says he never told anyone outside of the office. Lead Commission Counsel Peter Engelmann grilled him on his lack of action.  Van diepen said he thought what he did was appropriate at the time. Van Diepen also detailed his concerns about allegations that were leveled against him on a project truth website.
