John MacDonald

John MacDonald was the second man to come forward alleging that he had been sexually abused as a young boy by Father Charles MacDonald ,more commonly known in Cornwall, Ontario as Father Charlie, or, simply Charlie. In May 2002 Father MacDonald won a stay when he claimed his right to a speedy trial had been violated  John testified at the Cornwall Public Inquiry 13 & 14 December 2006 and 16 & 17 January 2007.

24 October 1995: 24 October 1995 hand-written letter from John MacDonald to Charles Harnick, the Ontario Attorney General in the then recently elected Progressive Conservative Michael Harris government.  MacDonald identifies himself as the second "victim" to approach police with sexual abuse allegations against Father Charles MacDonald. He raises questions about Malcolm MacDonald's guilty plea to charges of obstruction of justice and the absolute discharge given by Judge Lennox (PDF file)

11 August 1995: John MacDonald letter to Father Kevin Maloney - advises among other things that around the time of his sexual abuse his parents had complained to "the Church" and received no response.(PDF file)

26 April 1996: Letter from Constable J. R. Burnie (Cornwall Police Service) to John MacDonald. Burnie provides chronology of events after John left a message on Father Kevin Maloney's answering machine (19 August 1995) and Father Maloney in turn called the police, allegedly complaining that he wanted "these types of phonecalls" stopped.

Obstruction of Justice

In January 2007 John filed a complaint with the Cornwall Police Service of obstruction of justice against Cornwall Crown attorney Murray MacDonald, and Justices Peter Griffiths and Robert Pelletier (Griffiths and Pelletier were Crowns in the early days of the Cornwall sex abuse scandal and cover-up).  As of November 2007 no action had been taken by police and decision made to wait until the inquiry is over.
