Cornwall Public Inquiry

Perry Dunlop

Standing By Her Man - Helen Dunlop

January 29, 2008 — The wife of a former Cornwall city police officer facing arrest says her husband is adamant he will not talk. Speaking to AM 1220 News from her home in Duncan, B.C., Helen Dunlop says Perry will not talk until there's proof those at the Cornwall Public Inquiry are serious on exposing, convicting and publishing child sex abusers and their protectors. She says her family needs support. (Hear audio clip below) A Toronto court issued an arrest warrant yesterday saying it wanted Dunlop to be there in person to hear his sentence. Police aren't expected to enforce the warrant until sometime next month. Dunlop was found guilty on a charge of contempt in the fall for failing to testify at the Cornwall Public Inquiry. Dunlop is credited with uncovering child sex abuse allegations in the Cornwall area which led to the O.P.P.'s Project Truth investigation and eventually the Cornwall Public Inquiry.

[Audio clip transcript.  Helen: "We need some backing from the public, and we need to take this country back.  The justice system is out of control.  They’re out of control and they want a pound of flesh.  They won’t be happy until Perry’s in jail or dead, and I hope it doesn’t come to that."]
