Mixed Reaction To Inquiry Ruling

Cornwall News AM 1220

February 29, 2008 — One is pleased while the other is not. Two groups are mulling over Cornwall Public Inquiry Commissioner Normand Glaude's ruling yesterday. Glaude ruled the evidence of three witnesses be tossed out after a higher court said the inquiry's mandate was too broad. Cornwall deputy police chief Danny Aikman tells AM 1220 News they disagree with the decision. City police lawyers will decide within the next few days whether they will challenge the ruling. Victims Group lawyer Dallas Lee says he's pleased overall with the ruling but his mind is on those who had their evidence tossed.

Some Evidence Being Tossed At Inquiry

Cornwall News AM 1220

February 28, 2008 — The evidence of three witnesses will be tossed at the Cornwall Public Inquiry. Commissioner Normand Glaude remained undaunted today in the face of a higher court decision which suggested that some past testimony be ignored. However, Glaude says even though he will leave in that testimony, it won't play a role in his view of the work of institutions in their response to abuse allegations. Glaude was forced to look at the evidence of approximately 20 witnesses after a higher court ruled last month that the mandate was too wide. Glaude provided a lengthy ruling today. Glaude's decision today could still be challenged in the courts.
