Posted By KATHLEEN HAY KHAY@STANDARD-FREEHOLDER.COM

The Glengarry Highland Games is commemorating a century of police service in the province during this year's gathering in Maxville.

The 62nd edition of this year's Games on July 31 and Aug. 1 will pay tribute to the Ontario Provincial Police's 100th anniversary.

OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino will be this year's guest of honour to officially open the Games on Aug. 1 at 12:30 p. m.

Fantino was appointed as commissioner of the OPP in 2006.

Previous to his appointment, he was commissioner for emergency management for the Province of Ontario, as well as serving terms as chief of the Toronto Police Service (2000-05), chief of York Regional Police (1998-2000) and chief of the London Police Service (1991-98).

He has lectured extensively to the international police community, the public sector and government bodies. He is past president of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, and past chair of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Organized Crime Committee.

NUMEROUS AWARDS

Fantino is a recipient of numerous awards including Commander of the Order of Police Forces, the Order of Ontario, St. John's Ambulance, and the Queen's Commission.

In addition to his presence at the Games, there will be several special events celebrating the OPP's 100th anniversary. Activities include performances by the OPP Pipes and Drums, demonstrations by the canine division, interactive displays and a deployment of OPP vehicles and equipment.

Comments

This is an outrage, having Fantino, the top cop who is not performing his duty
in the Caladonia stand-off or arresting the criminals responsible while
arresting non-criminal citizens for asking him to do his job which he
accepts a salary for.

I hope the weather is lousy and Fantino is booed by those citizens that will
not honour a man who does not honour his duty to the citizens of Ontario
