The OPP have charged a city police detective with impaired driving.

Provincial officers were responding to a call on Feb. 1 around 6 p.m. in South Stormont when a man got out of a car on the side of County Road 15.

He flagged down the officers.

The officers pulled over to investigate and found the woman driving was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

OPP Const. Pete Robertson said the officers had been dispatched to deal with a call involving the vehicle the woman was driving, but he couldn't elaborate on the nature of the call because of the ongoing investigation.

Emma Wilson-King, 45, of South Stormont was charged with impaired driving and exceeding 80 milligrams blood alcohol content per 100 millilitres.

Wilson-King is a detective constable with the Cornwall Community Police Service.

According to Staff Sgt. Garry Derochie of the police service's professional standards bureau, Wilson-King is currently "on personal leave."

Until the charges against the detective are dealt with in the courts, Wilson-King will be assigned to a desk job to perform administrative duties when she returns to work.

In the meantime, Derochie said Chief of Police Dan Parkinson will file an automatic "chief's complaint" under the Police Services Act against Wilson-King.

If convicted of impaired driving, the officer could be subject to a Police Services Act hearing for serious misconduct.

Wilson-King is scheduled to appear in court today.

It is obvious the backlash on this site against a police officer gone bad. It is obviously a reaction against overzealous police in this city and elsewhere often abusing there power against the citizenry. That and do-gooder politicians introducing ever more stringent laws in their attempt to legislate and enforce common sense.

Sorry that don't wash with me.

If you want to serve the law, you uphold the law.

If your drunk, don't drive, any idiot knows that by now, so no sympathy from me...stand up and face the music like everyother idiot that drives drunk.

Some cops are definitely too much. I dealt with a couple of young cops who were arrogant and mouthy for no reason. They should be man enough to meet up when they're off duty and settle things like men, the old fashion way if they want to start something instead of hiding behind their badge. Nothing but unnitelligent cowards if you ask me.. But not all cops mind you just some. Surprised they didn't cover this up.

It is nice to see police officers doing their job and arresting a police officer who has broken the law. In Cornwall too many times there is a practice of keeping it quiet when a politician or someone in a special position is up to no good. With the OPP, there is none of that. Well done. And Chief Parkinson seems to feel he would be safer with Cornwall Police-

I wonder if this may be a retaliatory response to Chief Parkinson's comment that his force provides a safer community than the OPP would. Just a thought?

She knows better............,she just got caught, it happens every day.

I don't think she should keep her job. I think she's hiding behind a desk until it all goes away and probably with full pay. We pay her wages. We should decide if she should keep her job or not. I think she should be fired! That's it, that's all. P.S. Will she have a breath-alyzer installed in her cruiser next year?????????

Something happen out there inregard to who ever was in the vehicle with Eamma Detective Wilson King. When that person got out of that vehicle and flagged down the OPP officer the OPP officer,s hands were tied. Forcing him to do his job there by breaking the thin blue line. This truly make me wonder if this is what we as a society have come to accepte as true blue thin line justice. Just maybe we have a OPP officer out there who has formulated a true blue line that is not transparent it is pure justice. Just maybe now it is time for OPP to take over the responsiblity of Cornwall Policing. CLEAN HOUSE ONCE AND FOR ALL JUSTICE.
