Cornwall Public Inquiry

Dunlop Refuses To Testify (Script)

Cornwall News AM 1220

September 17, 2007 — Will Perry Dunlop go behind bars for his actions at the Cornwall Public Inquiry? A former city police officer credited with uncovering child sex abuse allegations in Cornwall took the stand today. However, Perry Dunlop may be charged with contempt for refusing to answer more than a few questions. He repeated he has nothing to say to the inquiry after he read a couple of notes (audio below). Dunlop was asked to step down from with witness box and his wife Helen took the stand. She had more than a few words for the commissioner and all those involved with the inquiry. Mr. Dunlop was surrounded by supporters when he spoke with the media on his way out of the Weaveshed. Both of Dunlops were asked to come back tomorrow morning to restart their testimony. Lead Commission Counsel says it's premature to speculate whether or not jail time is a possibility if they refuse to testify.

Perry Dunlop is refusing to answer questions at the Cornwall Public Inquiry.

Dunlop was on the stand for just a few moments during which he read a prepared statement. Dunlop said he was "lied to" and "forced to attend" the inquiry against his will.

Dunlop said he has given evidence on my occasions over the years and has nothing further to add. Dunlop then asked for a break and when he returned to the stand, he continued to refuse to cooperate with the inquiry process.

"I have nothing to say to this inquiry," Dunlop repeatedly answered as he was asked questions.

The inquiry is continuing.
