Doug Seguin contacted brother's accusers

27 November 2007

A few years after Doug Seguin's brother committed suicide, he began questioning those individuals who accused his brother of sexual abuse.

Doug Seguin testified Tuesday at the Cornwall Public Inquiry he met with sexual abuse survivors Ron Leroux and Gerry Renshaw.

Doug Seguin's brother, Ken Seguin, a former probation officer, killed himself in November 1993. Seguin has been accused of sexually assaulting young boys, but was never charged with any offence.

"There was no investigation that time into Ken," Doug Seguin said. "And, see, we (Ken Seguin's family) were the ones at the time trying to figure out the validity of these accusations."

"I then said an affidavit and saying things to the media is one thing, but lying in court is another," Doug Seguin said, recalling a conversation between himself and Leroux.

Leroux's affidavit was published on a website and contained allegations that prominent individuals in the community had engaged in sexual rituals at Ken Seguin's house. Leroux later admitted in his testimony he lied about those sexual rituals.

Commission counsel Simon Ruel also put into evidence numerous complaints Doug Seguin had made to police about how is brother's case was handled as well as at Perry Dunlop.

Doug Seguin claimed Dunlop made inflammatory comments towards him, calling him a "supporter of pedophiles" during a confrontation when they were both at the Ottawa courthouse.
