Cornwall Public Inquiry

No Publication Ban

For Employee Of Local Diocese

Cornwall News AM 1220

December 12, 2006 — The Ontario Divisional Court has denied a request by the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall to have the name of one its employees protected at the Cornwall Public Inquiry. The decision came down yesterday afternoon. The judge upheld commissioner Normand Glaude's ruling because he felt the identity of the employee is relevant to the inquiry's mandate and was not convinced the effects of a publication ban outweighed the effects on the parties and the public. However, it is unclear whether or not the name can be published since the Diocese has indicated they will be filing for another appeal at a higher court. Meanwhile the wife of a victim shared her feelings and thoughts about the abuse her husband suffered. Albert Roy says he was abused by two probation officers while growing up in the city. His wife Vicki sees and feels the impacts first hand. Albert is expected to finish his testimony today.
