Preventing Child Sex Abuse

Cornwall News AM 1220

October 18, 2007 — In an effort to build "hope, trust and pride", community members including the Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School Choir met at the Cornwall Civic Complex today to talk about preventing child sex abuse. Commissioner Normand Glaude says we need to know how to deal with child sex abuse and we need to stop it. Prevention was the focus of the meeting and a guest speaker shared a few techniques. Doctor Peter Jaffe says it is important for children to know that perpetrators are normally people they trust, not strangers. Ottawa resident Ron Jette tells AM 1220 News it was worthwhile. The session was part of the Cornwall Public Inquiry's phase two mandate which is healing and reconciliation.
