What Names To Ban At Inquiry?

Cornwall News AM 1220

November 15, 2006 — Publication bans relating to an alleged perpetrator is the focus of today’s hearing at the Cornwall Public Inquiry. Lawyers for Father Charles MacDonald are asking for a publication ban on the name of their client and any identifiers during alleged victim testimony. They are also asking for the details of criminal allegations against their client be confidential. MacDonald claims the allegations have caused him to lose respect among those in his community. He says due to the intense media scrutiny, his reputation has been torn to shreds and damaged in an irreparable way. The charges against MacDonald were stayed in 2002.

Commissioner Normand Glaude hopes to have a decision on the matter by Friday.
