Bishops meet

Cornwall Standard Freeholder
15 October 2007

Catholic bishops from across Canada will be in Cornwall this week for the annual plenary assembly of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB).

For the next five days, the bishops will be meeting to discuss events of the last pastoral year and other projects and initiatives of the conference. Each year, one religious representative is invited to address the bishops, and for the first time ever, the 2007 assembly will welcome a representative from the Muslim community, Imam Dr. Zijad Delic, the executive director of the Canadian Islamic Congress.

The CCCB will also be electing a new leader to succeed the current president, Sherbrooke Archbishop Andr‚ Gaumond, who has completed his two-year mandate. The meeting is taking place at Nav Canada.
