Cornwall Public Inquiry

Guilty plea in child pornography case

Cornwall Standard Freeholder

A former school bus driver pled guilty to possession of child pornography Friday.

According to assistant Crown attorney Dan Brisebois, Robert Ashkewe, 39, rented a laptop from a local retailer in the fall of 2007. After Ashkewe returned the laptop in December, the next person to rent the laptop returned it with a disturbing report, Brisebois explained in a courtroom.

When the renter powered the computer up, videos and photos of child pornography were found on the hard drive.

The computer was turned over to Cornwall Community Police Service's Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit, which began an investigation.

Police found 33 films and 31 photographs downloaded onto the computer during the time when Ashkewe had rented it.

Ashkewe attempted to delete the pornographic material from the computer, but, as Brisebois pointed out, most files are "never really deleted" from a computer.

The police were able to retrieve the incriminating material and Ashkewe was arrested at his home on Jan. 25, 2008.

He had been a school bus driver since April 2006.

Ashkewe drove students to and from St. Lawrence Intermediate School and East Front Public School.

Ashkewe is undergoing medical testing for an "internal problem," according to defence lawyer Don Johnson, a factor which will be considered in a pre-sentence report.

Ashkewe will return to court for sentencing on May 3.

Internal problem eh probably turning into a sick dog. Funny how they can wrangle a job to be around children but he is too ill to differentiate between right and wrong.

The police can be serious all they want but its up to the courts to put the nail in the coffin.

"boone" your right on the money, but the judges have to be way more severe in there sentencing of these perverts, something I have failed to see in the court system, why they do not give severe sentences is beyond me.

Wow... I hope this pervert gets the most severe punishment.

He was a bus driver for my 6 year old sons school, and I am soo happy that I drive him in everyday. I am the type of mother who doesn't let anyone babysit my children but my IMMEDIATE family, and it's pretty sad that the only place my child goes without me is school and it's not even a safe place for him to be. What does a parent have to do, stop sending their child to school? Oh and if that isn't enough, at the end of the 2009 school year the JANITOR from that school was let go because there are accusations being made about him molesting a young boy in his janitorial supply room, numerous times!!! The school didn't even send home a letter to inform the parents, instead they kept it all hush-hush until theirs and the polices "investigation" was over...We still haven't heard anything about that since.

Btw just so everyone knows his name is JIM DESAULNIERS (i think thats how its spelled)

my friend went over a grand-mother's home to get her nephew's son and the person that open the door was a sex offender and his boyfriend. In this house was 2 little girls that he abused before. My friend called the police. They told the grand-mother that her son had to move out or the kids. So he did took the door but I'll be not surprise to find out that he came back right away. Who's gonna protect these little girls? This guy should be in jail for life!
