THE CORNWALL PUBLIC INQUIRY

The Honourable G. Normand Glaude, Commissioner

L’ENQUÊTE PUBLIQUE SUR CORNWALL

L’honorable G. Normand Glaude, commissaire

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 19, 2006

Cornwall Public Inquiry seeks public input on Advisory Panel

(Cornwall, ON)

The Advisory Panel, to be comprised of between six and eight well-qualified individuals, will assist the Inquiry in a number of areas including research, reviewing possible ideas or approaches and participating in certain public meetings outside of the hearings process. Panel members could come from a variety of backgrounds relevant to the work of the Inquiry including, but not necessarily limited to, child sex abuse, children or youth services, policing, the justice system, healing and mediation, community development or the Cornwall community itself. Panel members would participate on a part time basis and must be free from any conflict of interest.

“Input from the parties and the public is important and valuable to the Commission, in constructing a resource to contribute to the creation of a healing environment in Cornwall,” said Ms Parrish. “It is also consistent with the Commission’s commitment to be open in its processes.

We very much look forward to hearing suggestions from the public and the parties on both the composition and mandate of our Advisory Panel.”

For the purpose of offering public input, the draft Terms of Reference for the Advisory Panel are posted on the Inquiry’s website:

Director by e-mailing Ms Parrish at: Colleen.Parrish@jus.gov.on.ca or by sending correspondence by mail to: Colleen Parrish, Director of Policy, Cornwall Public Inquiry, 709 Cotton Mill Street, Cornwall, ON K6H 7K7.

Following the consultation process with parties and the public, it is anticipated the Advisory Panel will be announced in the later part of May.

Justice G. Normand Glaude, Commissioner of the Cornwall Public Inquiry, today announced a process by which the public and parties with standing at the Inquiry can offer their ideas on the composition and mandate of a soon-to-be-established Advisory Panel. He indicated that Colleen Parrish, Director of Policy, will co-ordinate the process for getting the views of parties and the public on the panel’s terms of reference and on who would best contribute to the work of the Cornwall Public Inquiry.www.cornwallinquiry.ca Feedback on both the terms of reference as well as appropriate suggestions for Panel members can be submitted to the Policy
