Dunlop Knew He Would Be In "Deep Water"-Abell

AM 1220 - Local

October 24, 2008 — There are suggestions Perry Dunlop knew he was rocking the boat when he went the Children's Aid Society with an abuse complaint. Former CAS executive director Richard Abell is explaining his interactions with former city police officer Perry Dunlop in relation to a child sex abuse allegation. Evidence suggests Dunlop went to Abell with the alleged victim's statement because he was not happy with the way his police force was handling the complaint. Abell testified today that Dunlop went into self protection mode right from the start because he knew he was in "deep water" for going outside the force. (Hear audio clip below) Abell says he later met with former city police chief Claude Shaver and Shaver told him that he was "really angry" with Dunlop. Abell says Shaver also said that the police department "screwed up big time". Shaver testified in June while Dunlop has refused to appear before the commission. Hearings continue Monday morning at 9:30 with more testimony from Abell.
